Role Overview
The Land Manager is responsible for the oversight, execution, and continuous improvement of land management activities across AES Ohio-owned properties. This role ensures contractors deliver services in accordance with Master Service Agreements (MSAs), safety standards, environmental requirements, and operational expectations. The position partners closely with internal stakeholders to optimize land strategies, manage risk, and improve cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Land Management Operations (Ohio)

  • Lead all land management activities across substations, service centers, microwave sites, vacant land, laydown yards, and special-use properties
  • Maintain site-specific scope requirements and ensure proper land classification and service alignment
  • Coordinate routine and non-routine land maintenance to maintain safe, compliant, and reliable site conditions

Contract Execution & Vendor Management

  • Administer land management contracts in alignment with approved MSAs and service requirements (e.g., mowing, vegetation, snow removal)
  • Serve as primary liaison with contractors, ensuring adherence to scope, frequency, and performance standards
  • Monitor contractor performance, validate work completion, and drive corrective actions as needed
  • Review and approve invoices, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and cost control

Seasonal Operations (Snow & Weather Response)

  • Oversee snow and ice management readiness and response across all Ohio land assets
  • Coordinate contractor deployment and ensure adherence to priority response plans during weather events

Cost Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement cost reduction and efficiency opportunities while maintaining service levels
  • Evaluate and pilot alternative land maintenance strategies such as integrated vegetation management, reduced-frequency mowing, and automation solutions
  • Assess risk, ROI, and operational feasibility of new approaches in collaboration with internal stakeholders
  • Support cross-functional initiatives and apply improvements across AES Indiana and AES Ohio operations

Compliance, Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure all work complies with AES policies, safety standards, and environmental and regulatory requirements
  • Verify contractor compliance with access, training, PPE, and site security protocols
  • Monitor and support compliance with evolving environmental and land-use regulations, including wildlife-related initiatives

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in land management, facilities operations, vegetation management, or contract/vendor management
  • Experience managing service contracts, Master Service Agreements, and third-party vendors
  • Ability to manage geographically dispersed assets and field operations

Preferred

  • Experience in utility, infrastructure, or asset-intensive environments
  • Familiarity with integrated vegetation management programs or emerging land maintenance technologies
