Senior Research Scientist

Lyten is looking for a Senior Research Scientist that will take a role and/or lead in developing plasma-based and chemistry-based carbon growth and materials treatment processes for Li-S batteries and composite materials in alignment with company objectives.

Additionally, this Senior Research Scientist will help facilities management through construction project management in alignment with group goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop processes for Lyten’s next generation materials creation and functionalization utilizing traditional thermal CVD and microwave plasma reactors to produce 2D and 3D Graphene for company applications.
  • Collaborate with Lyten IPI team members and contribute to design modifications for improved reactor performance in the generation of materials.
  • Assist in creation of novel materials for internal and external customers.
  • Help assist and direct efforts for carbon functionalization, materials decoration, and loading, for example sulfurization in battery materials.
  • Generate intellectual property as required as new innovations are proposed and innovated.
  • Work on cross disciplinary teams and with cross functional business unit team with an open mind to innovative ideas in a fast-paced startup company.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., chemistry (molecular), materials science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and chemical engineering, computer science) AND 5+ years of experience in a relevant field leading or contributing to multidisciplinary projects where scope requires reliance on the technical experience of other team members OR Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., chemistry (molecular), materials science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and chemical engineering, computer science) AND 3+ years of experience in a relevant field leading or contributing to multidisciplinary projects where scope requires reliance on the technical experience of other team members OR Doctorate degree in a relevant field (e.g., chemistry (molecular), materials science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and chemical engineering, computer science)
  • Experience with innate materials growth, materials modifications, and functionalization development in atmospheric plasma torch-based research and production reactors.
  • Chemical processing to create and modify materials in atmospheric and vacuum conditions.
  • Expertise in advanced materials chemistry, materials properties, growth, reactions, and interdiffusion of powders.
  • Knowledge of materials analysis techniques including XRD, BET, Raman, SEM/EDS, TEM, XPS, and IGA.
  • The ability to make actionable plans from literature research and personal experience.
  • Experience with Li ion battery fabrication and familiarity with battery cycle life testing.
  • Track record of innovative process development and materials processing/functionalization/fabrication
  • Require good time management skills as well as the ability to direct efforts of graduate students and associate engineers.
  • The ability to work in a team is essential and requires strong collaboration with students, senior scientists, design engineers, facilities personnel, the program manager, and CIO.
  • Professional interactions with internal customers and colleagues
  • Meeting deliverable timelines

Compensations Range:

The expected base salary range for this position is between

$127,000.00 - $190,600.00

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise.

This compensation and benefits information is based on Lyten’s estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. We generally do not negotiate on salary once we have made an offer. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise. New hires joining the company tend to be paid within the starting base pay range noted above, with opportunities to increase pay over time based on development of additional skills, competencies, and company-specific knowledge.

In addition to base pay this position is eligible for tier based bonus and equity, healthcare, dental, vision, corporate discounts, paid holidays, PTO and sick time, 401K, employee relocation plan (if applicable)
