This position is anticipated to begin at the start of summer 2026, with full-time hours during the summer. There may be an opportunity to transition to part-time hours during the fall and spring semesters, allowing the candidate to potentially continue working while attending school.
A Brief Summary of This Position:
Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Safety Engineering Intern position on the Global EHS team. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will be an active participant in contributing to the goals of the Safety Engineering team, while learning best practices from some of the finest Engineers in the world. You will learn a tremendous amount in this role and will be given exposure to other parts of the business, including subject matter experts from a wide variety of divisions and professions. Essential Functions:
This position reports to the Senior Safety Engineer – Manufacturing Systems and has no indirect or direct reports
This role may require up to 10% travel (domestic)
Work with a design team that consists of one or more individuals from Manufacturing, Safety, Procurement, Service, Quality Assurance, and Engineering Services, getting exposure to different angles of team development
Provide manufacturing engineering assistance in the resolution of machine safeguarding design
Assist in developing machine safety standards
Research and recommend safeguarding solutions (guards, interlocks, light curtains, presence-sensing devices, safety PLCs, etc.)
Explore and evaluate new machine-safety technologies
Assist in identifying safety improvements, capacity constraints, quality issues, material handling, and additional processes
Recommend tests to confirm theoretical designs when necessary, and plan and coordinate the testing
Gain and subsequently apply design knowledge when considering the manufacturability and functionality of the final design
Participate in hands-on learning experiences through project work, leadership development, job shadowing, and interaction with senior leadership
Present learning and recommendations to various business leaders in both individual and group project formats
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:
Enrolled in an accredited university and actively pursuing a degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering
Junior or senior standing with an anticipated graduation in the next 18 months
CAD skills, including design applications, and an ability to convert drawings to 3D models
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications
Ability to travel domestically up to 10% of the internship
Demonstrated strong communication, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Demonstrated problem-solving/critical thinking skills
Ability to travel domestically up to 10% of the internship
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
GPA of 3.0+
Experience in an agricultural setting
3D computer-aided design experience
