ABOUT THE ROLE

The Estimating Manager is responsible for leading the development of accurate and competitive cost estimates for utility-scale solar, storage, and related high-voltage infrastructure projects across all phases of development and construction. You will be involved in creating and managing the estimating process, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors, and ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, and financial targets.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead the end-to-end estimating process for utility-scale solar projects, from conceptual design through final bid submission and change order accuracy.
  • Develop detailed cost breakdowns for all project components, including civil, structural, electrical, and interconnection scopes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, and construction teams to ensure estimates align with design specifications and construction methodologies.
  • Analyze project drawings, technical documents, and scope narratives to identify cost drivers, risks, and opportunities.
  • Solicit and evaluate quotes from contractors and vendors, ensuring competitive pricing and scope alignment.
  • Maintain and continuously improve historical cost databases, unit pricing libraries, and benchmarking tools.
  • Prepare and present estimate summaries, variance analyses, and cost models to senior leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Support the development of bid strategies, value engineering options, and alternative delivery methods to optimize project economics.
  • Monitor market trends, labor rates, material costs, and supply chain dynamics to inform estimating assumptions.
  • Participate in post-award reviews and cost reconciliation efforts to compare actual costs against estimates and improve future accuracy.
  • Collaborate with individual department, as well as cross-functionally with other departments within the organization.
  • Maintain organizational excellence in terms of project timelines and deliverables.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, finance, or related field or equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction estimating.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating utility-scale renewable energy projects or other large infrastructure projects.
  • Technology: Proficiency with estimating softwares, Procore, and Microsoft Office Suite, and an ability to learn company-specific software programs, tools, processes, and machines.
  • Skills/Attributes:
    • Advanced knowledge of construction estimating principles and cost modeling techniques.
    • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid, RSMeans, Excel-based tools).
    • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in reviewing land maps, Google Earth project related data, technical documents and cost data.
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills for cross-functional collaboration.
    • Familiarity with solar PV systems, electrical infrastructure, and civil construction practices.
    • Self-motivated to work through complex problems and competing priorities, including a high level of detail and organization.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Travel: 15%
