Job Description
The Electrode Coating Technician is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining electrode coating equipment used in the manufacturing of battery electrodes. This role supports production quality, process consistency, equipment performance, and safety standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The technician works closely with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Production teams to ensure coated electrodes meet specification requirements for downstream cell assembly.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Operate electrode coating, drying, calendaring, slitting, and material handling equipment to meet daily/weekly production goals.
Prepare and load coating materials, slurries, rolls, and substrates according to work instructions and process specifications.
Monitor coating parameters including:
Coating thickness
Web tension
Line speed
Oven temperatures
Viscosity
Coating weight
Inspect coated electrodes for defects such as streaks, wrinkles, pinholes, contamination, uneven coating, edge defects, or adhesion issues.
Perform in-process measurements and quality checks using gauges, microscopes, and metrology tools.
Record production data, process parameters accurately in manufacturing systems or production logs.
Assist in machine setup, changeovers, cleaning, and preventive maintenance activities.
Troubleshoot minor equipment or process issues and escalate more complex problems to appropriate Engineer or Maintenance.
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to yield, throughput, safety, and process capability.
Maintain compliance with safety procedures, PPE requirements, chemical handling protocols, and clean manufacturing practices.
Identify and maintain accurate inventory of supplies and materials needed for production.
Maintain organized work areas according to 5S standards.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Two-year technical or Associate Degree preferred, especially in manufacturing, industrial technology, or engineering technology.
2+ years of hands-on machine setup experience in a manufacturing environment. Battery experience desirable.
Ability to write and maintain accurate SOP’s, work instructions and technical documentation.
Basic mechanical aptitude and abilities and troubleshooting skills.
Comfortable working around industrial equipment and chemical materials and the use of PPE, including gloves, safety glasses and safety shoes.
Basic computer skills for data entry and production tracking.
Strong attention to detail, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
