What We Are Looking For

We are looking for an Application Engineer / Project Engineer to join Stem’s global project delivery team, based in Gurgaon. In this role, you will be an integral part of our European delivery operations — supporting Berlin-led utility-scale EMS, BESS, and hybrid PV+BESS projects through application engineering, system configuration, documentation, technical analysis, and project support.

You will work closely with the Berlin engineering team on a daily basis, contributing to real project deliverables for some of Europe’s largest renewable energy installations. This is not a back-office support role — it is a hands-on technical contributor position within a global team that values precision, initiative, and structured collaboration across time zones.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in SCADA, EMS, renewable energy systems, or industrial automation who thrives on detailed technical work and wants direct exposure to European utility-scale project delivery.

What You Will Do

  • Prepare and maintain detailed project documentation including communication circuit diagrams, network topologies, device lists, I/O mappings, and system specifications.
  • Support communication network configuration tasks — including VLAN setup documentation, managed switch parameterization, and fiber optic link verification — as part of site deployment and commissioning activities.
  • Assist in cybersecurity-related documentation and configuration activities — including firewall rule documentation, remote access configuration logs, and network security checklists — in line with project security requirements.
  • Perform application engineering tasks: device configuration, protocol setup (Modbus, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104), signal mapping, and data point verification.
  • Conduct pre-commissioning testing and system validation activities, supporting remote commissioning efforts led by the Berlin team.
  • Support grid code compliance verification tasks — including review of PPC setpoint tables, reactive power curves Q(U)/Q(P), and frequency response parameters — against applicable grid connection requirements as provided by the Berlin project team.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot technical issues related to communication networks, data acquisition, device integration, and system performance.
  • Support the Berlin project team with structured handovers, status updates, and technical documentation for each project phase.
  • Contribute to the development of configuration templates, test procedures, and quality assurance checklists to improve delivery consistency.
  • Assist with technical support escalations, including log analysis, issue reproduction, and resolution documentation.
  • Collaborate daily with Berlin-based engineers and regularly with U.S.-based product and platform teams, adapting to overlapping working hours across time zones and maintaining clear, structured written communication.
  • Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions and Stem University training to deepen expertise in Stem’s EMS, SCADA, and asset management platforms.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Automation, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 2–5 years of professional experience in SCADA, EMS, renewable energy systems, industrial automation, or a related technical domain.
  • Hands-on experience with system configuration, device parameterization, or application engineering for energy or industrial systems.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as Modbus, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, or DNP3.
  • Strong documentation skills — able to create clear, structured technical documents, diagrams, and reports.
  • Proficiency in tools such as AutoCAD, Visio, or equivalent for creating technical diagrams and communication layouts.
  • Strong written and spoken English. German language skills are not required but are a plus.
  • Detail-oriented, methodical, and reliable — you take pride in the accuracy and quality of your work.
  • Comfortable working across time zones with a remote team, maintaining clear communication and structured handovers.
  • Proactive and self-driven — you identify issues early, flag risks, and propose solutions rather than waiting for instructions.
