Job Description:
The Systems Engineer - Structural, based in Sorocaba, Brazil, will report to the Systems Engineering Manager. You will develop and provide technical leadership during implementation of advanced software for analysis and design of structures and other engineering systems. This role will involve leveraging experience in state-of-the-art structural analysis and design along with computer programming to develop engineering applications that will make design stages faster, scalable, optimized and automated. In this role you will ensure that NexTrackerβs internal design procedures for structures and foundations are at the cutting edge of market practices.
Daily activities:
- Prepare wind, dynamics, reliability, and other structural calculations;
- Research and implement state-of-the-art practices in numerical modeling of structures and mechanical components;
- Develop, refactor, and validate computational programs aimed at analysis and design of structures;
- Prepare technical documentation of developed codes;
- Develop products and generate complete understanding of them;
- Coordinate with structural, geotechnical and civil engineers to create and update structural and civil internal standards, specifications, models, and design tools;
- Coordinate with project engineering and product development departments to prioritize work on engineering software for structural and geotechnical applications;
- Assist in the design of experiments for capturing the behavior of structural components and systems;
- Work with data scientists and simulation engineers to leverage experimental and numerical data from complex analyses to update scalable engineering tools for structural and geotechnical design;
- Validate design procedures implemented by other team members and ensure timely implementation;
- Assist management in the technical mentorship of other structural and geotechnical engineers;
- Review analyses performed by civil and structural engineering third-party consultants;
- Comply with policies, procedures, and standards related to the company, code of conduct, work process, confidentiality agreements, and quality management system;
The experience we are looking to add to our team:
- Postgraduate degree in Civil, Structural Engineering or related field;
- 5+ years of experience in research and/or development in structural engineering;
- 2+ years of experience as a technical leader of engineering software development for Structural engineering applications;
- Application of engineering standards, codes, and other applicable state and federal guidelines, including but not limited to NBR, Eurocode, ASCE, AISC, CFE, and IBC for structural engineering applications;
- Scientific computing with Python or similar;
- Experience in developing proprietary codes for static and dynamic linear and nonlinear structural analysis (FEA or similar, experience with frameworks such as OpenSeesPy);
- Experience in structural design, including: permanent, accidental, snow, wind, and seismic loads, design of steel and concrete structures;
- Reading and interpretation of technical drawings;
- Experience with experimental stress analysis of structural systems;
- Advanced English;
Desirable:
- Experience with the structural analysis and design of solar trackers;
- PhD in structural engineering or computational mechanics;
- Basic Spanish;
- Experience with numerical modeling of soils and foundations.
