Transportation

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise.

Our sights are set high and our problems are hard, and we believe that diversity in the workplace is what makes us smarter, drives better insights, and will ultimately lift us all to success. We are dedicated to cultivating an equitable and inclusive environment that embraces our differences, and supports and celebrates all of our team members.

We are hiring a Staff Data Scientist to join our Product Integrity organization, which spans Manufacturing Quality, Supplier Quality, Product Quality, Flight Test, and FAA Type Certification. In this high-impact individual contributor role, you will work cross-functionally to uncover insights, detect risks, and deliver predictive analytics that directly improve product integrity, regulatory compliance, and manufacturing outcomes.

You’ll partner with Quality Engineers, Flight Test leads, Certification teams, and Operational leaders to shape and solve some of the most important technical and regulatory challenges facing the business. This role requires a strong analytical foundation, excellent business intuition, and the ability to drive outcomes with data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead trusted-definition analytics programs that drive end-to-end insight deployment—from problem framing through modeling, dashboarding, and monitoring—with minimal oversight.
  • Drive measurable business impact by tracking and improving outcomes such as defect reduction, cycle time improvements, or regulatory compliance through analytics and experimentation.
  • Work autonomously on potentially undefined projects that span multiple teams, functions, and systems—navigating ambiguity while driving clarity and outcomes.
  • Design and operationalize data pipelines and models that improve defect detection, accelerate root cause analysis, and enhance end-to-end traceability across the product lifecycle.
  • Incorporate ethical, curious, and stakeholder-centric approaches to analytics that foster trust, promote adoption, and influence decisions across engineering, quality, and certification domains.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or technical field (e.g., Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science); advanced degree (MS/PhD) a plus.
  • 7–10+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or applied statistics, with a strong record of delivering measurable business impact.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python for data analysis, pipeline development, and model implementation.
  • Extensive experience developing data visualizations in Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms, with the ability to design clear, actionable dashboards for technical and non-technical users.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across domains involving hardware, software, manufacturing, and compliance, with comfort navigating ambiguity and cross-functional complexity.
  • Strong foundation in statistical analysis, root cause methodologies, and predictive modeling, with the ability to translate findings into real-world operational improvements.
  • Demonstrated curiosity, critical thinking, and ethical awareness, with a history of translating ambiguous business needs into reliable analytics outcomes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present insights to stakeholders at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in aerospace, manufacturing, quality, or regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with FAA certification processes, flight test data, reliability analysis techniques (e.g., Weibull modeling, survival analysis, telemetry interpretation) — not required, but highly valued.
  • Experience building dashboards or tools for quality monitoring and risk detection.
  • Knowledge of MLOps practices or productionizing models in real-world operational settings.
  • Exposure to systems such as MES, QMS, PLM, or ERP that intersect with the product lifecycle.
