Position Overview
RMI is seeking a Staff Accountant in the greater Denver/Boulder, Colorado area who will serve a key support role on the Organizational Finance team and across the organization. Reporting to the Assistant Controller and working closely with other RMI staff in operations and programs, you will be the go-to person for journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger.

Key Responsibilities
Prepare periodic and monthly journal entries
Manage the fixed asset and prepaid expenses schedules
Assist with monthly reclass process
Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly
Reconcile bank statements monthly
Ensure accuracy of the general ledger
Assist with monthly financial close process
Suggest and implement process improvements
Assist and/or act as back up to all core accounting functions as needed including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management and Payroll
Assist during various audits including but not limited to preparing documentation for auditors
Support for any accounting related questions from internal and external constituents
Backup to all Assistant Controller responsibilities
Mentor and train junior accounting staff
Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented environment
Assist with state compliance and reporting requirements, as needed
Additional responsibilities, as required
Maintain financial security by following internal accounting controls and procedures
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
1-3+ years’ experience in an accounting role
Detail and service oriented with excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
Positive, highly motivated, and flexible with changing deadlines and workloads
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word
Experience using Workday or similar accounting system
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting
CPA or CPA candidate
Experience in nonprofit accounting

We are a remote-ready company with team members around the globe. Our beautiful and welcoming offices are available for meetings or focused work, whether you are traveling through or living nearby. Our U.S. offices are in New York City; Washington DC; Oakland, California; Boulder, Colorado, and Basalt, Colorado. This role can be located from anywhere in the continental United States, with a preference for this candidate to be in the greater Denver/Boulder, CO area.

We love seeing each other in person! We occasionally gather for shared time together like retreats and learning experiences. Be ready to travel for occasional in-person meetings (and of course, we cover travel costs). Some roles may require more travel, which will be discussed during the hiring process.
Compensation
At RMI, we prioritize fairness in our pay practices. Salaries are determined based on a mix of experience, market benchmarks, and internal equity across similar roles. The salary range of this position is $70,000-$86,275. New hires typically start toward the lower end of the range, depending on experience and alignment with the role’s scope. In addition to base salary, this position includes an annual bonus target of 5% and eligibility for merit-based increases, which are tied to both individual and organizational performance.
