As a Sr. Tightening Engineer, General Assembly, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of tightening strategies and systems used throughout the production process. This position requires expertise in tightening technologies, materials, and automotive manufacturing processes to ensure the highest levels of safety, performance, and cost-efficiency.

You will:

  • Design & Development of Tightening Solutions: Develop tightening strategies for new vehicle models, ensuring that all tightening processes meet safety, performance, and regulatory standards. Select and design sufficient tooling for all assembly tightening processes based on material properties and vehicle specifications
  • Torque and Tightening Specifications: Define and optimize torque settings for various fasteners and assembly processes. Ensure proper torque application to guarantee the structural integrity and durability of components
  • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams: Work closely with design engineers, production teams, quality assurance, and suppliers to communicate and implement tightening strategies. Collaborate with the R&D team to integrate new tightening technologies and innovations into vehicle design
  • Tightening System Integration & Automation: Evaluate and implement automated tightening systems to streamline production. Ensure that robotic and manual tightening processes are optimized for speed, precision, and cost-efficiency
  • Supplier & Vendor Management: Coordinate with external suppliers and vendors to source the right tightening tools for specific applications. Ensure the timely delivery of high-quality components that meet production needs
  • Cost Management & Efficiency: Identify opportunities for cost reduction while maintaining the quality and reliability of tightening methods. Work with procurement and manufacturing teams to source cost-effective fasteners and optimize inventory management
  • Regulatory Compliance & Documentation: Ensure that all tightening systems comply with industry regulations and standards, including safety and environmental requirements

You bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering field is required
  • At least 5+ years of professional experience in manufacturing is required
  • Experience in tightening process (ideally setting up DC tooling controllers)
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to build outstanding teams and interface well with senior management
  • Strong knowledge of tightening technologies, including mechanical and automated tightening systems
  • Experience with torque application, torque tools, and tightening equipment
  • Proficient in CAD software and engineering design tools such as CATIA / Delmia / AutoCAD / 3DX
  • Familiarity with quality control processes, including testing and inspection
  • Knowledge of materials science, including tightening methods compatibility with material combinations
