Repsol Services Company, a U.S. affiliate, is looking to add an attorney to its Legal Department. The successful candidate will work closely with the Company’s People and Organization team and support various U.S. operations with respect to labor and employment matters. The attorney will be based out of the Company’s office in the Woodlands, Texas, but will visit other U.S. offices, from time to time, as necessary. The role will have a significant counseling and training component. The attorney will also be responsible for preparing and updating a variety of labor and employment documents and materials and for negotiating relevant agreements. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing labor and employment claims and litigation. Candidates should be able to excel on culturally diverse teams.
Responsibilities:
Counsel and provide legal support regarding the full scope of labor and employment issues, including but not limited to those related to the Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Employee Retirement Income Security Act, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act, Title VII, analogous state laws, workers compensation, and record-keeping obligations.
Prepare and update a variety of labor and employment documents and materials, including company policies, handbooks, and training materials, and negotiate employment, severance, and other relevant agreements.
Assist in implementing and maintaining welfare benefit plans and pension plans for Company employees;
Assist internal mobility team and outside counsel as necessary to obtain work authorizations for personnel to be seconded to the Company;
Proactively make recommendations to protect the Company's interests and to manage changing circumstances in the Company’s business;
Advise regarding developments in applicable legislation, regulations, and caselaw;
Interact with relevant federal and state agencies, such as the EEOC and the Texas Workforce Commission, as needed;
Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and identify areas for improvement;
Support internal labor and employment investigations;
Diligently manage pending claims and litigation and supervise outside counsel;
Monitor and oversee outside counsel fees and expenses and work product to maintain cost- effective and quality external support;
Interface on relevant legal matters with colleagues in the United States and abroad;
Work effectively on culturally diverse teams to achieve business goals and objectives;
Work collaboratively with other departments and disciplines within Repsol to ensure issues are examined from all necessary angles;
Other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. for any employer;
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited U.S. law school and license to practice law in Texas;
Demonstrable knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws;
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience working in a law firm or practicing as in-house counsel;
Strong written and oral negotiation and communication skills;
Training/experience in conflict resolution is a plus;
Must have the ability to manage a variety of time-sensitive demands;
Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, good judgment, enthusiasm, and interpersonal skills.
