About the Role
As the Sr. Director, Global Benefits & Mobility at Fluence, you will lead the strategy, design, and execution of global benefits and mobility programs that support a dynamic, international workforce. This role is responsible for ensuring competitive, compliant, and cost-effective benefits offerings, while also overseeing global mobility programs including international assignments, relocations, immigration, and cross-border workforce compliance.
You will partner closely with HR, Legal, Finance, and business leaders to align Total Rewards and mobility strategies with business objectives, enabling talent movement while managing risk. This is a highly visible role with the opportunity to shape global programs in a fast-paced, evolving organization.
Responsibilities
Global Benefits
• Develop and execute the global strategy for employee benefit programs, including health & welfare, retirement, and voluntary benefits
• Lead design, implementation, and administration of benefit programs in alignment with regulatory requirements and Fluence’s Total Rewards philosophy
• Partner with HR and business leaders to ensure benefits programs meet workforce needs and market competitiveness
• Manage vendor relationships, including brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators; negotiate contracts and drive performance
• Analyze utilization, cost, and market data to optimize programs and control spend
• Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS, DOL, ACA, SOX, and country-specific regulations
• Lead open enrollment strategy, communications, and execution
• Drive employee education and engagement through clear, effective communications
• Oversee defined contribution retirement plans, including governance and administration
Global Mobility
• Lead the global mobility strategy, including international assignments, permanent transfers, relocations, and business travel compliance
• Design, implement, and maintain global mobility policies and frameworks aligned with business needs and risk tolerance
• Oversee end-to-end mobility processes, including assignment structuring, cost projections, approvals, and lifecycle management
• Partner with Legal, Tax, and external advisors to ensure compliance with immigration, tax, payroll, and employment regulations across jurisdictions
• Manage global mobility vendors (e.g., immigration counsel, tax advisors, relocation providers) to ensure service quality and cost effectiveness
• Provide strategic guidance to HR and business leaders on cross-border movement, including risk assessment (permanent establishment, tax exposure, work authorization)
• Establish governance and tracking mechanisms for international assignments and cross-border work, leveraging HRIS (e.g., Workday) where applicable
• Develop cost management strategies and reporting for global mobility programs, including assignment cost estimates and budgeting
• Support workforce planning by enabling efficient and compliant movement of talent across regions
• Educate HR and business leaders on global mobility policies, processes, and risks
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred)
• 8+ years of progressive experience in benefits and/or global mobility, with leadership experience
• Strong expertise in global benefits design and administration, along with working knowledge of global mobility programs and compliance requirements
• Experience managing international assignments, immigration processes, and cross-border employment considerations
• Knowledge of global tax, payroll, and employment risks related to workforce mobility (e.g., permanent establishment, shadow payroll)
• Proven ability to manage external vendors including brokers, immigration counsel, tax providers, and relocation partners
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
• Experience working in a global, matrixed organization
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
