Role Overview

The Senior Director, Commercial Strategy & Innovation is a senior leader within Fluence’s Growth organization, responsible for designing, incubating, and scaling high-impact commercial initiatives that accelerate Fluence’s evolution.

Operating as both a strategic architect and execution leader, this role drives the development of new commercial offerings, evaluates market expansion opportunities, and structures innovative partnership and investment models. The Sr. Director operates as an internal thought partner to senior leadership, translating complex ideas into actionable programs with measurable business impact.

This position requires a rare combination of strategic vision, deep commercial and financial acumen in electricity markets, and operational discipline to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives from concept through execution.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Strategy & Innovation

  • Lead the design, incubation, and scaling of new commercial offerings and go-to-market strategies across priority markets.

  • Identify and evaluate emerging market opportunities, including new revenue models (e.g., risk-sharing structures, deferred capex structures, optimization offerings).

  • Develop and pilot innovative business models, ensuring scalability and alignment with Fluence’s long-term strategy.

  • Structure and advance strategic partnerships (e.g., financial institutions, insurers, asset owners) to unlock new growth pathways.

Investment Analysis & Strategic Proposals

  • Own end-to-end development of investment cases, including financial modeling and electricity market analysis.

  • Define frameworks for assessing project economics, risk allocation, and regulatory/commercial complexity.

  • Lead the development of executive-level strategic proposals, synthesizing quantitative and qualitative insights.

Strategic Programs & Sales Enablement

  • Translate strategic initiatives into scalable programs, partnering with Sales, Marketing, Product, and Enablement teams.

  • Support development of tools, frameworks, and training programs that enable consistent execution of new offerings globally.

  • Ensure initiatives are embedded into commercial processes, pricing approaches, and solution positioning.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Execution

  • Lead complex, global, cross-functional initiatives, ensuring alignment across Sales, Finance, Legal, Product, and Supply Chain.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, influencing decisions without direct authority.

  • Establish clear KPIs, governance, and tracking mechanisms to ensure accountability and measurable impact.

  • Develop high-quality executive materials for internal and external audiences, including leadership updates and partner proposals.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • More than 10 years in commercial strategy, sales, investment analysis, and/or electricity market analysis.

  • Proven ability to operate as a senior strategic leader and internal consultant across a wide range of commercial topics.

  • Advanced skills in financial modeling, ideally with direct experience in electricity market or project investment modeling.

  • Demonstrated success in leading complex, cross-functional initiatives and influencing senior stakeholders.

  • Strong commercial judgment combined with analytical rigor and structured problem-solving.

  • Experience in renewables, energy storage, or clean energy markets required.
