Job Description:
The Performance Engineering and Control team’s goal is to develop algorithms and controls for an all-in-one PV only, Storage only and PV+Storage power block offering to our customers. This role will be R&D focused on supporting NX power block product developments and their integration into Nextpower’s existing offerings.
As a Sr. Controls Integration Engineer, you will support the team in product development, testing and validation of the NX power plant control product offering & will travel to projects to support in-field commissioning.
The role is based in Fremont, CA.
Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do…
Support in the design, development, testing and commissioning of Nextpower Power Plant Controls product offerings in test yards and project installations
Support in development and maintenance of validation tools for the purposes of controller testing and rapid prototyping.
Support in the testing and analysis of NX Power Plant Controls for certifications across multiple ISO.
Support in simulation-based stability analysis, interconnection studies as a part of NX power plant controls system integration efforts.
Collaborate with cross functional teams in deployment of power plant controls firmware.
Collaborate with cross functional teams to support M&V and power plant control techno-economic analysis.
Here is some of what you’ll need (required):·
MS (Master's) with 5 plus years of experience in design, testing and validation of PPC algorithms for utility scale applications with specific focus in renewable integration
.Demonstrated proficiency in development and testing of control logic for active/reactive power control, voltage regulation, and frequency response.
Strong grasp of electrical engineering and control system fundamentals including multiple SISO and MIMO methods
Demonstrated proficiency of Embedded Coder and MathWorks Model Based Design tools
Demonstrated proficiency in controller firmware integration.
Experience in PLC/IPC-based controller design, network architecture, and real-time power plant performance optimization
Experience with PLC/RTAC hardware as applicable to plant controls (E.g. GE RX3i, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, SEL-RTAC)
Experience with IEEE1547 US grid code and interconnection requirements, including ERCOT, CAISO.
Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) for controller validation
Proficiency in C++/C, Python coding.
Create high-quality technical documentation.
Excellent organization and communication skills.
Willingness to travel (up to 15% of the time) throughout the US and worldwide
Here are a few of our preferred experiences:
Experience with PV + Battery applications. Knowledge of dc-coupled PV + Battery applications is a plus.
Experience with PPC-SCADA integration
Experience with communication protocols (Modbus), network architecture.
Experience with energy management for renewables hybrids.
