Job Description

This position provides technical leadership and management support for nuclear technology advancement and testing. This includes directing and mentoring the work of individual contributors on the team, supporting the management of resource and organizational needs of the test engineering team, and assisting with the coordination with system engineers to identify required testing, plan the necessary test program(s), supervise test execution and evaluation, and communicate results throughout the organization.


Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Help enact standard processes and best practices associated with technology maturation, test planning and execution.

  • Work with system engineers to assess system risks, identify testing needs and requirements, develop test plans & specifications, and provide oversight of test activities.

  • Support planning, design and development of test facilities, equipment and infrastructure.

  • Engage with vendors to provide technical oversight of start-to-finish testing activities, from initial concept development through test execution.

  • Provide general oversight of internal and external testing activities to verify the technical and programmatic completeness of testing performed.

  • Provide in-person supervision of test setup, installation, commissioning and execution.

  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.

  • Create and implement test plans.
  • Procure material and facilities.
  • Review test output data.
  • Create reports based on findings.
  • Support engineering resources utilization across multiple assignments and ensure qualified engineers are performing assigned work.
  • Ensure testing activities are performed in accordance with Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager

Job Profile Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or nuclear engineering or related discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • Typically, ten years of professional experience in engineering after completion of undergraduate study. Graduate degrees typically count as two plus years of experience.
  • Hands on experience with hardware development, testing and experimentation.
  • Demonstrated experience with design of experiment and test planning.
  • Experience working under a formal quality assurance framework such as ISO 9000, ASTM or NQA-1.

Preferred Skills

  • Creep-fatigue (metals), Creep graphite;
  • Stress-corrosion cracking, high-temperature oxidation and corrosion;
  • He-implantation;
  • metal and graphite materials irradiation;
  • materials characterization (SEM-EDS, TEM, XRD, XPS, etc.)
  • Familiarity with relevant ASME and ASTM standards

Location: 530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MD

Work Schedule: 4 Days a week in office
Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm, Mon-Fri

Travel Expectation: 10%

Compensation

A reasonable estimate for this position at the level of experience required is:

$112,275-$187,125
