Position Summary
The Senior Technical Trainer at Deriva Energy is a subject-matter expert responsible for developing and delivering advanced technical training for wind, solar, and battery operations across the United States. This role serves as a lead trainer and curriculum specialist, ensuring technicians acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to work safely and effectively in the field. As a senior member of the technical training team, this role mentors’ junior trainers, supports training program design, advises Operations leadership, and drives continuous improvement in workforce readiness and compliance for both internal and external customers.
Main Responsibilities
Facilitate expert-level and specialized training across wind, solar, and battery systems, including advanced troubleshooting, systems integration, and high-risk operational scenarios
Serve as the subject-matter authority for diagnosing and resolving complex technical, electrical, and mechanical issues encountered during training or field-readiness activities
Mentor and develop Trainers and Associate Trainers, providing guidance on instructional technique, technical accuracy, facilitation skills, and trainee evaluation
Lead updates and enhancements to training curriculum and materials, ensuring alignment with evolving fleet technologies, regulatory requirements, and Global Wind Organization (GWO) standards.
Act as the primary point of escalation for challenging training scenarios, trainee performance concerns, or content clarifications requiring senior-level judgment
Maintain full functionality of the Learning Management System (LMS), including course creation, user management, troubleshooting, reporting, and integration support
Manage all GWO-related student certifications, training records, audit-ready documentation, and compliance requirements
Provide input and support for instructional design activities, including building assessments, updating course content, and refining learning pathways
Demonstrate strong leadership, decision-making, and communication in the classroom, training facilities, and during collaboration with operations and safety teams
Utilize Microsoft Office and other operational tools to create, manage, and deliver high-quality training content, reports, and trainee performance documentation
Meet and uphold the requirements to serve as a GWO Certified Trainer across applicable modules
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Organizational Development, or a related field
or equivalent technical field experience
Three (3) or more years of experience delivering technical training, ideally in renewable energy or industrial operations
Experience coaching or mentoring trainers, technicians, or technical teams
Desired Qualifications
Five (5) or more years of progressive technical training experience, with demonstrated leadership in training delivery or curriculum development
Global Wind Organization Qualified Trainer or equivalent certification
Strong background in regulatory, compliance, and safety training
Experience interacting with leadership and external stakeholders, including customers and vendors
Deep understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design, and technical curriculum development
Proven ability to develop structured training pipelines from onboarding through proficiency
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to assess trainee performance and recommend program improvements
Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and learning management systems
Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment with flexibility to travel as needed
Certifications in Training & Development, Instructional Design, or Safety Management preferred
Working Conditions
This role based in Charlotte, NC.
Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, and occasional bending or light physical movement
Work primarily performed in an indoor office or training facility with extended computer use
Occasional work may occur in outdoor or well-ventilated facility environments depending on training needs
