We are seeking a driven and innovative Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of Rondo’s proprietary heat battery systems. In this role, you’ll design critical systems, components, and tooling that will enable the large-scale deployment of RHBs across global industrial processes. 

Your work will directly shape the systems that can replace fossil-fired boilers worldwide and contribute to one of the most significant industrial transformations in history.

What You Will Do (key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to):

  • Convert product requirements into technical specifications, develop conceptual and detailed designs along with necessary risk assessments
  • Perform engineering analysis, prototyping and/or testing required to deliver robust and cost-effective solutions on the core technology as well as tooling and other equipment to support manufacturing, testing and other efforts
  • Lead multiple projects concurrently, managing timelines and budgets
  • Develop scalable manufacturing processes and procedures; establish training and quality standards 
  • Design for high volume manufacturability and lower cost
  • Prepare specifications, working drawings, instructions and other related documents
  • Select equipment with a focus on functionality, scalability, and cost-effectiveness
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and operations teams to drive real-time product development
  • Propose and execute product cost models and cost reduction initiatives
  • Lead technical discussions and design review meetings
  • Support procurement by defining technical specifications and qualifying vendors 

 

What You Will Bring:

  • 5+ years of engineering experience from multiple industries and technologies (energy industry experience is a plus).
  • A BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related areas
  • Hands-on experience with successful product designs, cost optimization, and design-for-manufacturability
  • Ability to solve mechanical engineering problems and develop conceptual designs across various mechanical engineering disciplines, particularly heat transfer, mass flow, and mechanics
  • Ability to perform engineering analyses in 1D or 3D
  • Demonstrated creativity and a proven track record of innovation
  • Fluency in Solidworks
  • A strong preference for working in highly collaborative teams; you are communicative, inclusive, and a good teammate.

This role is on-site, and necessitates being present at our Alameda HQ 4-5 days per week. The estimated annual salary range for this role is $150,000 to $180,000 and it would be eligible for Rondo's excellent benefits listed above plus additional compensation in the form of equity. Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidates' diverse sets of skill levels and experience.
