Overview
The Senior Financial Reporting Accountant is a critical member within our Finance & Accounting team. This hands-on role blends core accounting responsibilities with a strong emphasis on external financial reporting, technical accounting research, and Workiva platform management. The position supports the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial disclosures across multiple levels of the organizational hierarchy, while also contributing to day-to-day corporate accounting operations. This role will report to the Corporate Accounting Manager and offers opportunities to take on additional responsibilities as the team continues to grow.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
- Lead and support the preparation of periodic external financial reporting, including quarterly and annual financial statements for project-level entities and corporate parents.
- Prepare GAAP financial statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules within a multi-tiered financial consolidation.
- Develop and maintain templates for annual financial statement reports; identify new disclosure requirements in advance of year-end.
- Liaise with independent auditors to provide support for multiple audited consolidated and standalone financial statements.
- Participate in monthly financial analysis and assist with variance explanations.
Workiva Management
- Serve as a key administrator and power user of the Workiva platform for financial reporting workflows.
- Build, maintain, and improve report templates, data linkages, and review workflows within Workiva to support accurate and efficient reporting.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure Workiva processes align with reporting timelines and control requirements.
- Support the accounting team in training and onboarding on Workiva functionality.
Technical Accounting
- Research and prepare technical accounting memos and white papers on complex accounting topics, including: contract review assessments for new power purchase agreements and other energy agreements; assessment of new lease agreements; evaluation of going concern and long-lived asset impairment as necessary.
- Monitor and analyze new or updated accounting pronouncements under U.S. GAAP and communicate implications to the team.
- Develop knowledge of applicable accounting standards and future reporting developments, ensuring ongoing compliance with relevant standards.
General Accounting & Controls
- Assist operational accounting teams in period-end reporting as needed.
- Assist in establishing, implementing, and improving internal control policies and procedures, including documentation and database maintenance.
- Participate in the development of accounting policies, procedures, and best practices, and help communicate them to the broader business.
- Perform other duties as required for the position.
Education & Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; MS in Accounting and/or CPA preferred
- Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, or a related role. Public accounting experience is a plus
- Experience with Workiva (preferred), including report building, template management, or platform administration
- Experience with NetSuite or another comprehensive ERP system preferred
- Experience documenting accounting positions under U.S. GAAP for complex or unique transactions
- Experience preparing and/or reviewing multi-tier consolidations and drafting GAAP financial statement footnotes
- Relevant industry experience is a plus but not required, including solar or other energy
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills; ability to quickly learn new software
- Comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day to day activities
- Inquisitive, self motivated, and proactive in reaching out across departments to complete tasks
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work effectively with diverse teams, auditors, legal counsel, and all levels of management
- Excellent analytical and reasoning abilities with strong attention to detail
- Organized and resourceful; able to manage multiple priorities with competing deadlines under minimal supervision

Location: The preferred location for this role is for Washington, DC. Our team operates on a hybrid schedule, with in-office schedule of three days per week.
Compensation: The salary range for the position is $90,000-$115,000 plus bonus and benefits. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.
