Job Description:

Position: Senior Engineer/Technical lead - Bill of Materials (BoM)
Years of Experience Required: 8 to 10 years
Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (Full-time)

Role Overview:

The Senior Engineer – BoM is responsible for executing and guiding BoM creation, validation, and release activities while mentoring junior team members on configuration management best practices. This role involves hands-on PLM work, cross-functional collaboration, and active participation in driving PLM initiatives and process improvements to enhance BoM governance, data quality, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Execution & BoM Management:

  • Create, validate, and release Design, Manufacturing, Service BoMs in PLM, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design intent.
  • Maintain traceability of parts, configurations, and associated documents throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Work with Engineering for part and BoM release activities, with Manufacturing for production BoM readiness and with finance. supply chain & export control for adherence to data accuracy.
  • Support Engineering team in CAD model & documentation release processes.
  • Mentoring & Team Support:
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers on BoM structure, part governance, and configuration processes.
  • Perform peer reviews and provide feedback to improve team deliverables.
  • Act as a reference point for resolving complex BoM or configuration-related issues.

Change & Configuration Management:

  • Participate actively in Configuration Control Board (CCB) meetings and support timely processing of change requests (CRs) and change notices (CNs).
  • Review CRs for BoM impacts, ensuring complete impact analysis and proper documentation.
  • Drive BoM changes from proposal through implementation, coordinating with requestors and approvers.

PLM Initiatives & Process Improvements:

  • Take a lead role in identifying opportunities for improving PLM workflows, BoM structures, and part governance.
  • Actively participate in PLM enhancement projects, upgrades, and new capability rollouts.
  • Contribute to standardization of BoM management practices across programs and ensure best practices are adopted by the team.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Coordinate closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Manufacturing teams for smooth handover of BoM data and alignment on changes.
  • Support configuration-related discussions, gap analysis, and solution design sessions with stakeholders.

Compliance & Quality:

  • Ensure BoM data adheres to internal CM processes and industry standards (ISO/EIA).
  • Monitor data quality and ensure timely completion of assigned BoM and change-related tasks to meet program milestones.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • 8–10 years of hands-on experience in BoM management, configuration management, or product data management in a PLM environment.
  • Strong understanding on PLM-Windchill & its modules, ERP-SAP functionalities.
  • Strong understanding of product configuration principles and CM standards (CMII Level II certification or equivalent is a plus).
  • Proven ability to mentor and support junior team members while remaining hands-on with execution.
  • Experience leading or supporting PLM process improvement initiatives, workflow enhancements, or system upgrades.
  • Good stakeholder communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with PLM-ERP integrations and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of scripting (VBA/Python/prower BI) for BoM automation & reporting – nice to have.
  • Exposure to Salesforce – nice to have.
