Valmont OKG is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for the Production Scheduler & Support Specialist position at the Oklahoma Galvanizing site in Claremore, OK. This position is responsible for assisting the Production Supervisors and the Operations Manager with the coordination of the use of equipment, material, and human resources to gain maximum productivity from their assigned crew. The incumbent will monitor process material flow and the production schedule to meet completion dates. With their thoughtful decisions and active supervision, the Production Scheduler and Support Specialist will significantly contribute to improving operations and reaching organizational goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares, coordinates, and maintains daily and weekly processing schedules for a two-shift operation and its processes.
  • Prepares, coordinates, and maintains the scheduling of all unplanned requirements as necessary when production problems or high priority situations are encountered.
  • Coordinates and liaisons all required services between customers, production department, and sales department with order status.
  • Confers with production supervisors to communicate specific customer information, turn-times, and delivery requirements.
  • Directs investigation of production status regarding order completion requirements and customer satisfaction criteria.
  • Demonstrates and utilizes continuous improvement efforts with respect to operations, efficiencies, turnaround times, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide production supervisors with the required information to deliver expected production results.
  • Conduct morning load counts and reports it to operational leadership.
  • Serve as a certified forklift trainer.
  • Manage quality tracker; add quality issues to spreadsheet
  • Complete mil certification forms for customers
  • Inspect clean, finished material to ensure it meets the quality standards, is packaged and banded correctly, and sign off on the product tags.
  • Work closely with Operations Manager and Production Supervisors to resolve delays or quality issues, providing necessary support and assistance.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for the most effective utilization of equipment, material, and personnel within production crews; coordinate the moving of personnel to maximize schedule attainment.
  • Continual visual inspection of all parts processed to ensure an acceptable level of quality.
  • Plan for the movement of materials in and out of the building for efficient line flow and will need to communicate this movement with the appropriate material handling procedures to allow for maximum safety, efficiency, and quality.
  • Continual inspection of the process tanks for lost parts
  • Carry out the conscientious training of all new employees as to the safe and proper methods of performing different duties as well as wearing PPE. Continual and careful scrutiny of employees and work areas will be necessary to avoid hazards and to promote safety awareness within the department.
  • Actively participates in department safety; demonstrates excellent safety practices and behaviors and conforms to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.

Other Important Details about the Role:

  • Assist with root cause analysis for safety and quality incidents.
  • Regularly use a computer for email communication, typing, and Excel; maintain strong proficiency and check emails daily to ensure timely responses.
  • Communicate with various levels of staff regarding any changes to production to ensure customer satisfaction as well as ensure downtime is kept to a minimum.
  • Assume production crew leader responsibilities when necessary and adhere to all safety protocols and operational procedures.
  • Complete additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a galvanizing facility

  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members and interact with individuals from other departments
  • Thorough understanding of the galvanizing process and relevant quality standards
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret various documents, including material drawings, safety rules, operating manuals, and procedure manuals
  • Must successfully complete the American Galvanizer’s Association Inspection Course as soon as available
  • Thorough knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong commitment to safety practices, with a high level of awareness and adherence to safety protocols
  • Proven problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, implement effective solutions, and plan for future production needs
  • The ability to work overtime as needed
  • Must possess a passion for excellence and integrity, exhibiting the drive and determination to deliver exceptional results and contribute to the success of meeting department goals.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Forklift Operator Certification
  • Bilingual fluency (English & Spanish) preferred

Responsibility for Safety of Others

  • The Production Planner and Scheduler will be expected to carry out the conscientious training of all new employees as to the safety and proper methods of performing different duties as well as wearing PPE. Continual and careful scrutiny by this position of employees and work areas will be necessary to avoid hazards and to promote safety awareness within the department. Keeping safety at the forefront in the daily performance of job duties includes personal safety, safety of others in the department and safekeeping of all company resources. Actively participates in department safety; demonstrates excellent safety practices and behaviors and conforms to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.

Responsibility for Work of Others

  • The Production Planner and Scheduler will monitor all work on the production schedule. They will assist, train, and direct as appropriate all employees to ensure a safe and efficient flow of work through the facility.

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting and in the yard. While outside the incumbent is exposed to weather typical with the changes of the seasons. Walking in areas which are very rough, slick, and at times muddy. Will contend with ice- and snow-covered material and walks in the winter. Potential for falls due to climbing into and onto trailers as well as slick working conditions. The required safety equipment in the yard areas are steel-toed boots with metatarsal protection, hard hat, and safety vest and glasses.

The incumbent is regularly required to sit for periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. They are required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The incumbent is occasionally required to move about the office and must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
