A Brief Summary of This Position:

The Project Manager (PM) will be responsible in the overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of medium to high voltage electrical substation and transmission line material procurement project ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitment and goals. This Individual Contributor position will be responsible for identifying key project milestones and developing a project timeline that supports the defined project deliverables. The Project Manager owns identifying project risk and assessing that risk to develop appropriate and effective mitigation strategies. The PM will serve as a principal point of contact internally from the inquiry stage through the delivery and closeout of all orders related to each assigned customer account. The PM will coordinate efforts of the team members and any third party contractors or consultants in order to meet the project deliverables according to the project plan. The PM provides weekly project status updates to management and executive level.

Essential Functions:

  • Reports to the Senior Director of Substation Packaging; no direct or indirect reports.
  • Requires up to 30% domestic travel, including overnight stays.
  • Review client drawings/specs and perform material “take-offs” for substations.
  • Lead end-to-end project development, defining scope, goals, and deliverables aligned with customer and business objectives.
  • Identify and mitigate risks; manage project dependencies and critical path.
  • Select cost-effective materials per project specs; confirm scope accuracy and eliminate unnecessary items.
  • Develop project timelines, full-scale plans, and communication documents.
  • Administer contracts to avoid liquidated damages; forecast material/resource needs.
  • Communicate schedule impacts and changes with customers and internal teams.
  • Set/manage expectations with stakeholders; resolve team issues and conflicts.
  • Track milestones and deliverables; manage scope changes and contingency plans.
  • Define success criteria and ensure alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coach and motivate team members and contractors for accountability and performance.
  • Provide weekly status updates to leadership; conduct post-project reviews.
  • Build and maintain relationships critical to project success.
  • Develop and apply best practices and tools for project execution.
  • Obtain and negotiate quotes from manufacturers; ensure accurate material orders.
  • Organize material lists and verify compliance upon delivery.
  • Ensure proper fit/function of products using drawings and specifications.
  • Implement strategies to reduce costs, improve production, and enhance customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:

  • Preferred Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of relevant experience or Associate’s Degree with 7+ years of relevant experience or 9+ years of relevant experience
  • Ability to define measurable project goals and apply Critical Path Methodology (CPM).
  • Skilled in identifying project constraints, assumptions, and integrating dependent/independent activities into schedules with time/cost estimates.
  • Strong communication skills across all levels of the organization, including customers and third-party contractors.
  • Proven ability to identify schedule risks and ensure cost adherence.
  • Highly organized with strong interpersonal skills; able to prioritize and execute tasks under pressure.
  • Maintains detailed project logs and communicates status effectively in both written and verbal formats.
  • Demonstrates collaborative, team-oriented communication.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and general computer applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 2+ years of experience with a commercial or industrial general contractor.
  • Prior experience in substation-related roles such as Substation Engineer, Electrical Designer, Lineman, Drafter, or Inside Sales.
  • PMP certification.
  • Experience managing scope creep and improving project performance.
  • Understanding of contract terms, cost accounting, and profitability analysis.
  • Ability to lead in a matrixed team environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Project or similar scheduling tools.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Solid grasp of civil, structural, and electrical construction principles.
