Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.
Base is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to contribute to the design and launch of manufacturing lines to produce our cutting edge battery storage systems. In this role you will work with cross functional teams throughout the lifecycle of the product to develop high quality and efficient manufacturing equipment and processes that will produce Base Power’s battery storage products.
What You’ll Do
Develop equipment, fixtures, and processes to support early-stage prototype builds and scale for high-volume production
Determine and procure necessary equipment for all manufacturing processes, collaborating with integrators to design and manufacture semi-auto to fully automated manufacturing equipment
Manage suppliers through specification, design, buyoff, and installation of manufacturing equipment
Design efficient production workstation layouts to enhance product flow, ergonomics, and efficiency while conducting process analysis, DOE, PFMEA, line balancing, and capacity modeling/simulation
Provide DFM (design for manufacturability) input to improve processes and yield outcomes
Create detailed manufacturing instructions and documentation to train technicians, implement new processes, and ensure smooth handoff to production operations
What You’ll Bring
3+ years of experience as a hands-on Mechanical/Manufacturing/Design Engineer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systems
Experience using 2D cad tools for conceptual line design (AutoCAD) and 3D design for mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling (SolidWorks or CATIA)
Experience with conveyance, workstation design, robotic systems, adhesive dispensing, DC fastening tools, or automated functional testing
Experience with GD&T and system stack up analysis
Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
Experience providing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Automation (DFA)
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.
Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.
Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.
Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.
Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.
Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.
Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.
