Job Description

This role is responsible for supporting X-energy small modular reactor licensing efforts, including work on the Xe-100 projects. Individuals will be responsible for leading strategic domestic and international projects related to business development; regulatory, legislative, and policy analysis; safety and environmental licensing strategy; application preparation; and construction strategy. This role will require cross-organizational coordination; federal and state-level regulator engagement; direct client support; and industry working group participation. Individuals can expect to work in technical areas such as environmental licensing, nuclear safety, nuclear security, emergency planning, safeguards, and regulatory compliance.


Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Support portions of licensing activities (certifications, permits, approvals, and licenses associated with reactor technologies) and ensure milestones are met as agreed with the U.S. NRC.
  • Provide licensing support to engineers in developing technical requirements that will ensure compliance with NRC regulations and guidance.
  • Support scope development of the annual regulatory engagement plan, lead regulatory audits and responses to RAI’s (Requests for Additional Information).
  • Develop licensing content to support portions of Safey Analysis Reports and licensing applications.
  • Support planning and executing the X-energy licensing strategy.
  • Develop regulatory white papers, technical reports, and licensing topical reports.
  • Support development of licensing plans and associated budgets.
  • Actively support the X-energy safety culture and ensure integration of quality in licensing processes as informed by the X-energy Quality Assurance Program.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

Job Profile Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (e.g. mechanical, nuclear, electrical, physics) or other related area.
  • Level III: Typically, five years of relevant licensing experience.
  • Level IV: Typically, ten years of relevant licensing experience.
  • Level V: Typically, fifteen years of relevant licensing experience.

Preferred Skills:

Candidates for these roles would ideally have one or more of the following skills, knowledge, and experience:

  • Experience with U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission construction permit and operating license application preparation and/or reviews
  • Knowledge of high-temperature gas reactor technologies and/or first-of-a-kind nuclear technologies
  • Knowledge of small modular reactor technical and licensing considerations
  • Knowledge of U.S. NRC and/or U.S. DOE regulatory requirements for reactor licensing
  • Knowledge of international nuclear reactor licensing frameworks
  • Experience with front-end loading project planning
  • Ability to analyze and interpret regulatory requirements, legislation, and policy documents

Compensation

As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.). Salary ranges may vary based on the specific office location and region referenced in the posting to take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not be reflective of all regions. A reasonable estimate for this position at the level of experience required is:

Level III: $84,075- $140,125/ Level IV: $102,825- $171,375/ Level V: 125,700- $209,500
