A day in the life of an AES Clean Energy E Electrical Operations Technician will include:

Monitoring daily operation performance of the Hawaii solar facilities; Planning and performing preventative & corrective maintenance on solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) equipment; Based out of your home, travel to solar facilities to perform preventative & corrective maintenance and ongoing construction activities; and Coordinating and managing contractors engaged to support the maintenance activities.

The successful candidate will have experience in the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of AC and DC electrical systems of varying types and voltages with a strong preference for candidates with experience working with PV solar and BESS. We prefer that these positions be based on Kauai with regular state travel and occasional regional travel to attend to the sites’ needs.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Communicate operations/maintenance events on a routine basis utilizing a combination of phone calls, emails, and business software such as our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Participate in the construction/commissioning of the facilities within the region, working closely with the AES Clean Energy construction team to ensure a high-quality build and successful commissioning of the facilities, timely project punch list closeout, and smooth transition of responsibility to the Operations team.
  • Acquire and retain vendors and third-party contractors to assist the facility, when maintenance activities exceed the on-site knowledge, capabilities, and/or certification levels.
  • Create and maintain a consumables and critical spare parts list.
  • Lead/support warranty claims processes with vendors as needed.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A two-year Industrial Technology degree with two to three years of related experience and/or training: or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1+ year experience working on utility scale electrical systems highly preferred.
  • Experience working with C&I or utility scale PV systems, a plus.
  • Experience with battery energy storage, a plus.
  • Commitment to a quality safety culture and an incident-free work environment.
  • Knowledgeable in the systems, processes and protocols guiding the operations and maintenance of industrial PV solar plants and electrical systems (OSHA standards, NFPA 70e, Lockout/ Tagout/ Grounding, etc.).
  • Knowledgeable of the programs and protocols associated with SCADA, DAS and remote monitoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, comprehend and troubleshoot from equipment/facility schematics.
  • Ability to work remotely and utilize technology to stay connected to colleagues in the state, in other Field Services regions, and in the Louisville, CO and Salt Lake City, UT headquarters.
  • Self-starter, very self-reliant and capable of operating with minimal direct supervision.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well versed in the use of the Microsoft Office software suite.
  • Willingness to travel regionally in a company provided service vehicle and using

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $47.25 and $56.53/per hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes annual bonus. The benefits offered for this position are: medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, 401(k) eligibility, and paid time off (including vacation, sick leave time, and parental leave).
