A Brief Summary of This Position:
The primary role of the Production Lead 12 is to work closely with the Production Supervisor and Production Manager, peers, and other departments to contribute to Valmont’s overall success. The Production Lead must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results. This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor and is responsible for driving the Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost metrics in the Shop. Effective communication, leadership, teamwork and motivation with all employees while adhering to Valmont’s standards, policies, and procedures are critical for this role.
Shift: 2nd shift (Evenings) Monday - Friday 3PM - 11PM
Starting Hourly Pay Rate (LG12): $29.52 + $0.75 per hour Lead allowance
Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year & 2 years
***Qualified Internal Candidates will have their current step progression reviewed when determining new pay rate offered***
Essential Functions
Actively model, lead, and enforce established safety policies and consistently seek opportunities for safety improvements
Drive a ‘safety first’ culture. Lead on safety contacts, near misses, and bright ideas.
Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work both in a non-temperature controlled environment and outdoors.
Accept, make, and pass high quality product. Minimize cost of poor quality with training and improvement.
Ensure all quality checks and paperwork are complete as expected and without error.
Maintain the work instructions, best-practices, and material flow to ensure that products are manufactured on schedule and within quality and cost objectives.
Responsible for supervising the daily work of all production personnel and communicating to supervisor as appropriate.
Lead culture through positive interactions, motivation and recognition as needed.
Train, or arrange training of, shift personnel to ensure consistent methods and results.
Communicates daily with all levels of employees regarding daily safety, quality and production metrics to be achieved, and on-going training and development activities. Communicates regularly with direct reports on their personal and team achievements and improvements needed, so that these individuals understand what is expected of them and their team.
Ability to effectively communicate between different shifts, personnel, and leadership.
Leads shift start up ‘stand-up’ meeting constructively
Ability to work in the assigned area and lead in metrics while maintaining safety and quality expectations.
Maintain housekeeping and an orderly production environment that is thoroughly cleaned for the following shift.
Help assess and manage the team’s bench strength and cross training needs
Lead the Team on Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to understand losses; take action to prevent future breakdowns and incidents
Develop a strong personal understanding of all processes and equipment within the assigned department
Monitor equipment condition and plan downtime for repairs and preventative maintenance
All other duties as required and/or assigned

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Three years of leadership experience (ideally in an industrial and/or manufacturing setting).
Wear required personal protective equipment and follow facility safety regulations.
Maintain a safe and productive working environment
The ability to meet production, safety, and quality standards in a high-paced working environment.
Knowledge of all varieties of machines and fabrication
General knowledge and experience in the assigned area
Must have strong mechanical aptitude including ability to read micrometers, flatness and radius gauges, tape measures, and if applicable based on location, blueprints.
Ability to be Valmont trained and certified in operation of forklift and, if applicable based on location, overhead crane.
Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Associates’ degree in related field.

Four years experience in a leadership role in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Six Sigma certification and/or training.
The ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues.
The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions.
The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
A strong working knowledge of IFS
Working Conditions & Physical Efforts:
The job is performed in an indoor shop environment with occasional outdoor work. The temperature range can be from 100 degrees in the summer to about -20 degrees in the winter. Most operations may expose employee to some type of disagreeable working conditions (wind, cold, heat, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, water, or oil). Working conditions may vary with specific work assignments. Exposure to electrical hazards, grease, loud noises, and outside elements occur continually or regularly. Extreme care should be taken to prevent damage to equipment or department personnel in the area of operations especially when performing setups. The job requires safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety shoes be worn at all times. The employee must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the shop environment. The incumbent must also be able to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for working in the production facility.
Hazards:
This job requires handling metal objects some of which have sharp edges. Extreme care and awareness should be taken for all production jobs. Below are some common hazards that exist for this particular position. Set up and run of equipment provides the potential for injury through slips, falls, strains, pinch points, tripping hazards, shot blasting equipment, high pressure air nozzles, material handling equipment.
