BranchPattern is an engineering and building science firm committed to creating spaces that perform at the highest level, technically, environmentally, and humanly. Our Technology group sits at the intersection of built-environment expertise and emerging digital intelligence, delivering ICT and Security on projects across the country. We don't just design building systems; we shape how people experience buildings.

We are scaling. Our 10x vision is not a metaphor; it is a strategic roadmap to grow our practice into a nationally recognized leader in smart, human-centered building technology consulting. To get there, we need people who are technically sharp, intellectually curious, and motivated by the idea that buildings can, and should, work better for the humans inside them.

This is not a siloed drafting position. This is a role for someone who wants to own the technical narrative of a project from schematic design through construction administration and who understands that great ICT and security design is inseparable from great architecture.

As an ICT & Security Consultant / Designer, you will serve dual roles: a hands-on technical designer producing construction documents and specifications, and a consulting partner engaging clients, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and translating complex infrastructure into clear, actionable design intent. You will be an active contributor to BranchPattern's growth, participating in business development, client relationships, and thought leadership as we expand our presence.

Design & Technical Delivery

  • Lead and produce ICT system designs: structured cabling (ISP/OSP copper and fiber), horizontal distribution, telecom room layouts, bonding and pathways
  • Design and specify security systems including Access Control, Video Surveillance (CCTV/IP), and Intrusion Detection
  • Author complete construction document packages — schematic design through 100% CDs — including drawings, specifications, and basis-of-design narratives
  • Develop network topology diagrams and schematic interface documents supporting integrated ICT, AV, security, and smart building infrastructures (BMS, EMS, lighting)
  • Perform construction administration: respond to RFIs, review submittals, support commissioning, and close-out
  • Conduct site surveys and existing condition assessments to inform design decisions
  • Produce deliverables in Revit and AutoCAD; proficiency in BIM coordination expected

Consulting & Client Engagement

  • Serve as a primary technical contact for clients across sectors, including education, healthcare, commercial, and civic
  • Lead project meetings, present design concepts, and translate technical requirements into compelling, client-ready narratives
  • Coordinate closely with architects, MEP engineers, AV consultants, and general contractors to deliver seamlessly integrated solutions
  • Participate in business development activities, including RFP responses, client presentations, and market outreach upon request.
  • Contribute to BranchPattern's external presence, white papers, industry events, thought leadership content, as the firm scales its profile nationally

Team & Practice Development

  • Mentor junior designers and support a culture of continuous technical growth within the Technology group
  • Perform QA/QC review of ICT/security design documents
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and embed innovation deliberately, not just for novelty, but in service of better building performance
  • Maintain and expand knowledge of TIA/BICSI standards, IBC, NFPA, and relevant codes

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in ICT and/or security systems design within an A/E consulting environment
  • Demonstrated experience designing structured cabling (ISP/OSP), access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems
  • Proficiency in producing full construction document packages including drawings and specifications
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary design teams (architects, MEP, structural)
  • Strong client communication and presentation skills — comfort in front of a room is essential
  • Proficiency with Revit and/or AutoCAD; Bluebeam Revu; Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Technology, Telecommunications, or a closely related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) — strongly preferred
  • PSP (Physical Security Professional) or CPP credential
  • BICSI DCDC, OSP, or RTPM credential
  • Experience with BIM coordination and smart building network integration (BMS, EMS, metering, lighting control)
  • 10+ years of experience for a senior-level consideration

BranchPattern is a great place to work!

We are building a practice that thinks differently about built environments. The people who do well here are not just technically excellent, they're curious about why systems fail to serve people, and motivated to do something about it. They bring a point of view to their work. They ask hard questions in design reviews. They see business development not as a distraction from craft but as an extension of it.
