This is a highly visible and collaborative role, providing operational leadership across development, construction, commissioning, operations and service activities. You will work closely with colleagues across the broader European QSHE function to promote continuous improvement, ensure legal compliance, and support the effective implementation of Fluence's Integrated Management System.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the operational implementation of Fluence's Health & Safety strategy throughout the UK and Ireland.

  • Provide expert health and safety advice and operational support to project teams, managers, and senior leadership.

  • Foster a proactive and positive safety culture through visible leadership, coaching, and engagement.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant UK and Irish health and safety legislation, company standards, and client requirements.

  • Support projects throughout development, engineering, construction, commissioning, operations and service.

  • Review and guide risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and operational risk controls.

  • Undertake site inspections, Health & Safety audits, contractor assessments and assurance activities to verify compliance and identify opportunities for continual improvement.

  • Support supplier and Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) activities where Health & Safety input is required and within the limits of your technical competence.

  • Lead or support incident investigations, identifying root causes and ensuring effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented.

  • Develop, implement and monitor Health & Safety improvement initiatives, analysing performance data and trends to drive continual improvement.

  • Support contractor management activities, including competence reviews, mobilisation, performance monitoring and operational assurance.

  • Provide professional guidance on the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and equivalent Irish construction safety legislation where applicable.

  • Support the development and delivery of Health & Safety training, inductions, toolbox talks and awareness programmes.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, regulatory authorities and other external stakeholders.

  • Represent Fluence during client meetings, inspections, audits and regulatory engagements where required.

  • Support Health & Safety aspects of tenders, client due diligence exercises, insurance questionnaires, supplier assessments and other business assurance activities.

  • Work collaboratively with the Europe Environmental Compliance Manager by providing operational environmental support within your area of responsibility. Overall environmental compliance remains under the direction of the European Environmental Compliance Manager.

  • Provide support to the UK & Ireland Quality Manager on quality-related activities where requested and within your competence. Ownership of quality management activities remains with the Quality function.

  • Work closely with Health & Safety colleagues across Europe to promote consistency, share best practice and support regional and global QSHE initiatives.

  • Provide Subject Matter Expert support to office and workplace Health & Safety matters where required. Operational responsibility for office facilities remains with the relevant Facilities or Office Manager.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Chartered Membership of IOSH, or actively working towards Chartered status.

  • Significant operational Health & Safety experience within construction, infrastructure, utilities, renewable energy, electrical engineering or other high-risk industries.

  • Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, together with a good understanding of Irish Health & Safety requirements.

  • Experience supporting construction, commissioning and operational activities.

  • Experience in undertaking Health & Safety audits, inspections, compliance reviews and incident investigations.

  • Experience supporting contractor management and working within multi-disciplinary project teams.

  • Excellent communication, coaching and stakeholder management skills.

  • Full UK/Irish driving licence and willingness to travel where required.

  • Regular travel across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, along with frequent travel throughout Europe and occasional international journeys outside Europe, may be required.
