Job Description:

Role Overview

Fluence is seeking a Grid Connection Director (Australia) to lead grid connection strategy and delivery for utility-scale battery energy storage projects across the NEM. This role owns grid connection outcomes end-to-end, from early feasibility and sales support through to commissioning and R2 testing, while leading a high-performing technical team.

Working closely with customers, regulators, consultants, and internal engineering teams, the role ensures Fluence’s BESS solutions meet Generator Performance Standards and registration requirements, supporting Australia’s energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Australian Grid Connections team, setting objectives aligned with Fluence engineering and delivery goals
• Act as the primary interface for customers, regulators, and consultants on grid connection matters
• Provide grid connection expertise and inputs to sales and tender processes
• Manage grid modelling activities (internal and external), including feasibility assessments and MATs
• Oversee GPS compliance, generator registration, and preparation of R1/R2 documentation
• Review and influence BESS and BoP designs to ensure grid compliance outcomes
• Support commissioning activities, including R2 testing design and execution

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems
• 15+ years’ experience in power systems or grid connection roles, including BESS
• 5+ years’ experience leading technical or engineering teams
• Strong experience with NEM grid connections, GPS, and generator registration

Additional Skills

• Postgraduate qualifications in Power Systems
• Experience with PSS/E, PSCAD, and/or PowerFactory
• Experience with PPC or OEM dynamic models, feasibility studies, or APAC grid support
