Job Description

X-energy is looking for experienced engineers to join the Civil Structural team of our Engineering group in the role of Geotechnical Engineer IV. This role is responsible for the analysis, design, and evaluation of subsurface conditions and foundation systems for the Xe-100 projects. The Geotechnical Engineer IV will collaborate with a multi-disciplined team of engineers, suppliers, construction contractors, and other project stakeholders, and will support key objectives in deploying the Xe-100 plant that has advantages in safety, reliability, economics, and sustainability relative to current-day power generation units. This position will lead the execution of core geotechnical tasks without close supervision and with some latitude for independent judgment, while supporting the coordination of multiple workstreams within an assigned technical area.


Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Support development of plant site and design of foundation systems through final design and construction of Xe-100 projects.
  • Plan and scope geotechnical subsurface investigations, including borings, CPT, geophysical surveys, and soil classification.
  • Perform, manage, and oversee geotechnical deliverables, including reports and calculations related to soil properties, bearing capacity, settlement, slope stability, groundwater, and liquefaction evaluation.
  • Develop foundation systems such as spread footings, raft/mat foundations, driven piles, drilled shafts, and ground improvement solutions where applicable for Xe-100 projects.
  • Collaborate with civil engineers and construction teams to develop earthwork specifications.
  • Apply engineering principles, codes and standards, and best practices to design the site for hazards including seismic and flood.
  • Write and develop design documentation including design basis documents, technical reports, calculations, and drawings in accordance with applicable procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, national, and international codes, regulations, and quality standards.
  • Define, manage, and verify requirements and interfaces with internal and external teams for specific sites to advance the Xe-100 design.
  • Develop innovative concepts that can be implemented in a cost-effective and schedule-considerate manner while meeting the needs of customers.
  • Perform work in accordance with X-energy quality procedures for design and configuration management to ensure project quality requirements are met.
  • Provide independent reviews and acceptance reviews of engineering deliverables and data.
  • Lead the execution of core geotechnical tasks and responsibilities without close supervision and with some latitude for independent judgment.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to more junior team members with the execution of assigned geotechnical scope.
  • Lead small groups of engineers or analysts to solve complex technical problems and deliver high quality work products on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate multiple workstreams within an assigned technical area and ensure deliverables are aligned across disciplines.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

Job Profile Minimum Qualifications:

  • Typically, ten years of experience in a geotechnical or related engineering role required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related degree with a geotechnical focus from an accredited institution.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis methods, software such as PLAXIS and LPile, and hand calculations.
  • Experience with shallow and deep foundation designs.
  • Experience developing geotechnical reports, calculations, and specifications.
  • Understanding of civil and geotechnical fundamentals such as soil and rock mechanics, geology, materials, construction techniques, codes and standards, environmental and economic impact, and professional ethics.

Location: 530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MD
Work Site Expectations: 4 days a week in office, Remote Eligible

Travel Expectations: 10% or as needed

Hours: standard office schedule is 8:00am-5:00pm ET, Mon-Fri

Compensation

As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.). Individual candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position will be offered a salary within this range based on their respective levels of education/training, experience, and other qualifications unique to them. Salary ranges may vary based on the specific office location and region referenced in the posting to take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not be reflective of all regions. Please note that compensation ranges listed for US job postings reflect base salary only and do not include benefits or other incentives.

A reasonable estimate for this position at the level of experience required is:

$112,231 to $187,051
