Job Description:

About the Position

The Field Service Engineer (FSE) plays a critical role in ensuring the reliable operation and long-term performance of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This position focuses on delivering high-quality service, maintenance, and technical support to customers, while actively managing contractors and collaborating with internal teams to drive safety, quality, and performance excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with customers to provide timely, professional, and effective responses to service needs.
  • Support customer training during commissioning and as required throughout the lifecycle of the system.
  • Deliver onsite diagnostic, troubleshooting, and hands-on technical support for BESS equipment.
  • Assist the Area Services Manager in managing third-party service contractors, planning and executing both planned and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Continuously audit and improve safety, quality, and performance of contractor activities on site.
  • Lead quality control activities and verify completed work against established Quality Plans.
  • Manage safe maintenance operations using CMMS tools and track performance metrics for assigned sites.
  • Maintain professional control of physical inventories, tools, equipment, and assigned assets.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, including Management of Change, Root Cause Analysis, Inventory Management, Procurement, Peer Review, and Benchmarking.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams such as 24/7 Operations, Performance Analysts, Deployment, and Product Development to ensure continuous improvement and customer success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering field.
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in Wind, Solar, or industrial/utility O&M, performance testing, and troubleshooting.
  • English communication skills (written and verbal) sufficient for daily collaboration with global teams.
  • Willingness to accept assignments requiring extensive overnight travel, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to provide effective remote technical support to other teams.
  • Hands-on field experience in utility-scale or process-heavy industrial environments, including equipment testing, troubleshooting, installation, startup/shutdowns, commissioning, and turnarounds.
  • Proven success in challenging projects with demonstrated ownership, creativity, and initiative.
  • Strong interest in engineering design and ability to prepare specifications and work plans.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to motivate colleagues, clients, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Desire to learn new skills, business applications, and equipment platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple overlapping projects and resolve scheduling conflicts with stakeholders.
  • Experience delegating and managing subcontractor workloads effectively.
  • Cooperative and effective in collaborative, fast-moving, and informally structured environments.
  • Demonstrated capability in managing contractors within a matrix organization.
