Join our talented team of engineers and scientists working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next‐generation, all solid‐state electrolyte powder & rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative and innovative team environment. We are seeking an EHS Specialist II to support and advance site Environmental, Health, and Safety programs in our chemical battery manufacturing operations. This role provides ownership of hazardous waste management, regulatory compliance, and safety culture initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, certifications, and leadership in program administration, training, and audit readiness to ensure operational discipline and regulatory defensibility.
Job Duties:
- Hazardous Waste Management: Manage hazardous waste streams in compliance with RCRA, DOT, CERCLA, and state regulations; serve as authorized signatory on manifests.
- Respiratory & PPE Programs: Administer OSHA respiratory protection program, conduct fit testing, and oversee PPE program including hazard assessments and reimbursement systems.
- Life Safety Systems: Own inspection and readiness of fire extinguishers, first aid kits, eyewash stations, and emergency showers.
- Incident Investigations: Lead root cause investigations using structured RCA methodology; provide corrective and preventive actions.
- Audit Readiness: Support ISO 45001 and OSHA audit readiness with clause‑by‑clause documentation; conduct safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
- Training & Orientation: Deliver OSHA‑required training (HazCom, PPE, HAZWOPER refreshers), new hire safety orientation, and First Responder Team (FRT) courses.
- Emergency Response: Serve as a certified member of the Emergency Response Team; apply Advanced Lifesaver, CPR, and AED certifications during incidents.
- Metrics & Reporting: Track and report TRIR, training completion, and 5S scores; embed safety metrics into departmental performance reviews.
- Purchasing & Program Administration: Manage EHS department purchasing and PPE reimbursement program; exercise financial discretion and vendor oversight.
- Miscellaneous Duties: Perform additional EHS tasks as assigned to support operational discipline and safety culture.
Qualifications/ Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as Environmental Science, Chemistry, Occupational Safety and Health or a related field. (will substitute experience or associates with experience)
- 2+ years of work experience in EH&S field, industrial capacity preferred.
- Required Certifications: OSHA 8,24, or 40‑Hr HAZWOPER, RCRA, DOT. ASP – Associate Safety Professional or similar certification – will substitute 4+ years of experience.
- Preferred Certifications: Root Cause Analysis and/or Investigations, Advanced Lifesaver, CPR, AED.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory frameworks (OSHA, EPA, RCRA, DOT, ISO 45001).
- Develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols.
- Perform workplace safety investigations and ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards.
- General knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures.
- Investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions. Identify patterns in data.
- Advise management on the cost and effectiveness of safety and health programs.
- Demonstrated experience working in a laboratory or chemical manufacturing environment preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
- Work successfully as part of a team and independently.
- Ability to travel between Louisville and Thornton facilities. Must have reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to wear respirator protection and other PPE as required.
- This position will require routine bending, walking, stooping and kneeling.

Annual Compensation: $72,500 - $85,000
