About the Role:

The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, Materials will design and implement automated material handling systems for existing and new Eos manufacturing facilities.

Accountable For:

This position will be accountable for leading material handling projects from start to finish, the efficient and reliable flow of material, and selecting the best and most cost-effective material handling equipment for each project. Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV), Autonomous Mobile Robotics (AMR), Automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), smart conveyance systems and material transfer actuators and equipment experience from selection to implementation required.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement material handling solutions for receipt, put away, line introduction, and shipment of materials

  • Create, train, and update standard work instructions for material handling solutions

  • Collaborate with engineering, technicians and production staff on building layout and optimizing manufacturing processes.

  • Perform dock and storage capacity analysis

  • Evaluate packaging size and density for optimal material flow

  • Create and maintain Plan for Every Part (PFEP)

  • Manage material handling project scope, budget, timeline, and implementation

  • Define automated and non-automated material handling equipment needed for each material handling project

  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders and vendors about project status, critical items and priorities

  • Process oriented from a specification and acceptance of equipment standpoint

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Adopt lean principles and avoid strains on working capital by reducing waste and focusing on being a sales-driven company making product to meet the demand.

  • Create a structured approach to planning for a lean manufacturing environment helping to generate high-quality products at a pace that matches market demand.

  • Streamlining processes to increase production efficiency and reducing inventory by using just-in-time inventory methods.

  • Develop planning tools and framework to obtain approval from main stakeholders.

  • Knowledge and experience with material flow strategies

  • Knowledge of configuration control.

  • Experience working within an ISO quality plan is an asset.

  • Strong planning, organizational skills and attention to detail are required.

  • Team attitude: eager to cooperate with others, has exceptional interpersonal-communication skills.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, engineering, or manufacturing required.

  • Minimum of 8 years' experience.

  • Minimum of 8 years of materials engineering experience.

  • Understanding of and experience with Lean manufacturing principles is preferred.

  • APICS certification preferred

  • Experience in equipment selection, integration, deployment, and fleet management of autonomous systems

  • Experience with IoT implementation and working in a connected environment.

  • Experience in defining the infrastructure requirement to enable autonomous material flow in green and brownfield sites

Travel

  • Local Travel: 10-25%

  • Overnight/North America: 10-25%

Working Conditions

  • Office Environment - Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. May be required to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

  • Factory - The worker may be subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, vibration, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to temperature changes or exposure to chemicals. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, odors, dust, mists, and gases. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and lab coats. May be required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
