Job Description
This role is responsible for the execution of test activities on operational prototypes for advanced reactor technologies. The role will direct a watch team to prepare for, execute, and restore from tests on high-energy systems during the assembly, commissioning, operational testing, and decommissioning phases. The role will resolve test program problems as they occur, troubleshoot deficiencies, and authorize maintenance on test facility equipment, as well as document and communicate results of test program activities throughout the organization. The role will normally work in a state-of-the-art, semi-industrial test facility, but may work in a general office space during periods of test program planning and/or facility maintenance and downtime. The employee must complete a qualification program prior to directing tests on high-energy prototypes, including fulfilling a qualification card and passing a series of knowledge examinations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to talk, hear, walk, and move consistently throughout the day. The test environment may subject the employee to high temperatures, noises, and vibrations from operating equipment. The employee may be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals. The employee must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds. The employee may be required to work in cramped spaces.
Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities:
Provide feedback and guidance to more junior team members with the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document.
Ensure adherence to standards and test engineering conduct of operations, including verbatim compliance to written instructions, formal communications, and watch team backup.
Provide oversight and work with contractors during test facility installation and commissioning.
Lead pre-shift briefs, pre-evolution briefs, and watch team turnovers.
Prepare and deliver training on test procedures, prototype systems design and operations, and administrative functions.
Help enact standard processes and best practices associated with test planning, execution, and reporting.
Oversee work controls and maintenance activities, including lockout/tagout, and ensure adherence to requirements and safety.
Identify technical risks. Develop, implement, and manage appropriate risk mitigation strategies in a timely manner.
Resolve problems and troubleshoot deficient conditions in real time during the test program, including coordinating with appropriate SMEs (e.g., safety, operations, design engineering, and facility management).
Write and revise test procedures, test plans, and other test documents.
Work with system engineers and other stakeholders to assess system risks, inform test procedures and specifications, and provide oversight of test planning activities.
Provide general oversight of internal and external testing activities to verify the technical and programmatic completeness of testing performed.
Provide ownership, responsibility, and accountability over technical scope involving the coordination of multiple individual contributors working in a specific area.
Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Job Profile Minimum Qualifications:
Execute the core tasks and responsibilities, listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document, with minimal supervision.
Provide ownership, responsibility, and accountability over technical scope involving the coordination of multiple individual contributors working in a specific area.
Level III: Typically, 6-10 years of engineering work experience.
Level IV: Typically, 10+ years of engineering work experience.
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or nuclear engineering or related degree from an accredited institution.
Hands on experience with integrated systems operation, testing, and maintenance.
Demonstrated experience with test procedure development, execution, and reporting .
Typically, five years of experience in a test engineering role. Operational testing experience in nuclear or another highly regulated industry, such as chemical or pharmaceutical, is preferred. Previous experience at X-energy exceeding performance standards may be in lieu of years of experience.
Excellent leadership abilities with experience in team management, coaching, and conflict resolution.
Must demonstrate strong verbal, written, and analytical skills as well as have the ability to interact effectively with facility/program managers, team leaders and team members.
Strong understanding of operation/testing processes, quality control standards, and safety protocols.
