The SR400 Express Lanes Project is a transformative $4.6 billion infrastructure initiative led by SR400 Constructors, a 50/50 joint venture between Flatiron Dragados and ACCIONA. Commissioned by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and Georgia State Road Tollway Authority (SRTA), the project will add two 16-mile express lanes from Sandy Springs MARTA Station (Exit 5) to McFarland (Exit 12), enhancing mobility along one of Georgia’s busiest corridors. With a peak workforce of over 500, the project also includes dedicated bus rapid transit stations and key bridge refurbishments. Construction is set to begin in late 2025, with substantial completion anticipated in 2031.

The Drainage Engineer will be responsible for supporting the design, coordination, and documentation of drainage systems across any of the three project’s segments under the supervision of the Drainage Design Coordinator. This role involves technical analysis, design documentation, coordination with construction, and collaboration with multidisciplinary design teams to ensure compliance with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and construction timelines.

Job Description

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:

  • Review drainage plans and drainage reports prepared by the lead consultant to ensure compliance with contract requirements and provide additional value through optimizations.

  • Review Erosion, Sedimentation and Pollution Control Plans and post-construction storm water reports.

  • Monitor monthly drainage submittals, schedule, quantities, and risks to satisfy contract, procurement, and construction requirements. Track any possible delays and propose mitigations.

  • Become familiar with GDOT Standards for drainage structures and provide optimizations to facilitate construction of drainage elements.

  • Support the integration of drainage design with other disciplines and construction activities to ensure consistency and avoid conflicts.

  • Coordinate with construction all drainage changes required in the design plans and manage the resolution of drainage-related issues during execution (field changes).

  • Support in the execution stage, assisting the project team to resolve nonconformities, RFIs with designers, and unexpected events during construction.

  • Review and verify adequacy of temporary drainage in temporary traffic control plans

  • Assist in the preparation of estimates, designs, and tender documentation in accordance with company procedures.

  • Review all comments received from third parties (IQF and GDOT mainly) and ensure that comments are addressed in the plans.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Master’s degree is preferred.

  • E.I.T. or P.E. license preferred but not required

  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably on large-scale infrastructure or transportation projects.

  • Familiarity with hydraulic modeling software such as, StormCad, HY-8, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, or DRAINS is highly valued.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and Microstation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment.
