About The Role


As Director, New Markets, you will spearhead Solar Landscape’s efforts to expand into new markets across the United States. You will lead strategy, project management/execution, and stakeholder engagement as we plan for and expand into new markets, working closely with our Finance, Policy, Business Development, and Operations teams.


The ideal candidate has an in-depth understanding of the energy landscape in the United States and experience researching and preparing for market entry in renewables. You will assess opportunity feasibility and attractiveness through strategic, policy, and financial lenses, and ensure we execute effectively—from initial feasibility and contract negotiation (as necessary) through to execution.

Responsibilities
  • Strategy & Leadership
  • Develop and implement Solar Landscape’s new markets strategy, including long-term growth objectives, market positioning, and prioritization vs. existing markets and priorities.
  • Drive analysis of opportunities to expand into new markets beyond existing front-of-meter solar programs
  • Continuously monitor industry trends and regulatory changes, to ensure Solar Landscape is going after most attractive opportunities.

  • Policy & Financial Modeling
  • Work closely with the policy team to gather and assess relevant inputs on policy landscape across of-interest markets.
  • Actively scan the market (e.g., utility tariffs, legislation, secular trends) for opportunities to enter new markets beyond existing FTM programs.  
  • Identify policy changes that could potentially unlock new markets, work with policy team to assess lobbying viability.
  • Provide inputs for the financial analysis of new markets, including both existing front-of-meter programs and other new opportunities.

  • Project Execution & Management
  • Support end-to-end execution of new market entry, from up-front research to assess viability and attractiveness, to identification of strongest leads/targets to have conversations with, to pulling together analyses and pitch materials to close on deals.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams for all critical inputs needed to successfully enter new markets.
  • Regularly report on project status, milestones, and key performance indicators to executive leadership.
 
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as a lead representative in discussions with potential external partners.
  • Represent Solar Landscape at industry conferences and other events to build relationships and identify opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain strong, trusting relationships that support efficient market entry 


Qualifications
  • 6+ years of professional experience, with a combination of consulting or similar experience as well as experience in renewable energy, with a proven track record of success leading planning and execution of new market entry in renewables.
  • Demonstrated experience navigating policy, incentive programs, and regulatory frameworks in renewables markets.
  • Proven track record supporting financial valuation of renewables market entry opportunities.
  • Deep knowledge of United States renewables landscape, including utility tariffs, prominent FTM programs, and key players.
  • Excellent analytical abilities, with the capacity to synthesize complex information into actionable insights. 
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization. 
  • Proven leadership skills, including the ability to lead cross-functional teams and efforts. 
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and execute in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for clean energy and interest in contributing to a sustainable future.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a hands-on approach—willing to roll up your sleeves to drive projects to completion.
