Job Description:

The Director of Network Software & Deployment is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of all technical activities supporting the commissioning and operation of large-scale energy storage systems. This position leads multiple teams — including software, controls, and deployment engineering — to ensure reliable system integration, optimized performance, and efficient field support.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in energy storage technologies, power systems, and control software, along with demonstrated success managing multidisciplinary engineering teams in a dynamic, project-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide strategic direction and operational oversight for software, controls, and deployment engineering teams supporting energy storage commissioning and field operations.
  • Develop and execute engineering processes and best practices that ensure consistent, high-quality system performance across projects.
  • Partner with Product, Project Management, and Field Service leadership to align technical capabilities with business goals and customer needs.
  • Drive talent development, resource planning, and team growth to meet increasing project demands.

Technical Oversight

  • Oversee the development, validation, and deployment of energy storage control algorithms, supervisory software, and communication systems.
  • Ensure seamless system commissioning through coordination of software, hardware, and field resources.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives in diagnostics, remote monitoring, and control platform reliability.
  • Support post-commissioning troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes.

Operational Excellence

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for project readiness, commissioning timelines, and system reliability.
  • Partner with Field Service teams to ensure efficient handoffs, rapid issue resolution, and high customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee engineering documentation, including commissioning procedures, test plans, and software release notes.
  • Ensure all engineering and field activities adhere to relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Product Engineering to influence design for manufacturability, serviceability, and field performance.
  • Work with Supply Chain, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to ensure systems are delivered to specification and ready for deployment.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for major commissioning or operational issues across regional project portfolios.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in the energy storage, renewable energy, or power systems industry.
  • 5+ years in a leadership role managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Deep understanding of energy storage control systems, SCADA integration, and commissioning processes.
  • Proven experience with large-scale project deployment and field support operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Business Administration (MBA).
  • Experience with lithium-ion or flow battery systems, grid-tied inverters, and energy management systems.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and interconnection standards (IEEE 1547, UL 9540A, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills and a track record of cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced, technical environment.
