Job Description:
The Director, Software Engineering and Deployment oversees the strategy, planning, and execution of software deployments within Linux-based environments. This role combines deep technical expertise in Linux systems with strong leadership and project management skills to ensure reliable, efficient, and secure software releases. Key responsibilities include designing deployment strategies, ensuring network security, managing performance, and collaborating with teams to achieve business objectives. The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge of Ansible scripts, routing, switching, security, and cloud networking technologies, along with exceptional leadership and communication abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Deployment Strategy and Planning
Design the overall architecture and processes for software deployment in Linux environments, including detailed deployment and rollback plans.
Automation and CI/CD
Lead the design, development, and implementation of automation strategies and CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, Puppet, Nexus, Chef, Docker, or Kubernetes.
Infrastructure Management
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the underlying Linux infrastructure (servers, networks, storage, cloud platforms like AWS/Azure) is robust, stable, and scalable for application deployment.
Technical Guidance and Mentorship
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development and operations teams, promote best practices, and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
Monitoring and Optimization
Oversee system performance monitoring post-deployment, conduct performance tuning, and implement logging and alerting solutions (e.g., Nagios, Prometheus) to proactively identify and resolve issues.
Security and Compliance
Ensure all deployments adhere to security best practices and comply with industry regulations, including managing security patches and access controls.
Collaboration and Communication
Serve as the primary liaison between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders (e.g., project managers, business leaders), effectively communicating project status, risks, and technical concepts.
Risk Management
Identify potential issues before they escalate, perform risk assessments, and develop mitigation plans to minimize downtime and ensure business continuity.
Documentation
Create detailed low-level designs and other technical documentation.
Technical Experience:
• Proven track record of delivering complex enterprise software projects and large-scale SaaS platforms, with a focus on scalability and reliability.
• Strong understanding of controls software architecture, SaaS, design patterns, data analytics, and system software/hardware integration.
• Experience with enterprise platforms, edge computing, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), microservices, and CI/CD pipelines.
• In-depth knowledge of various Linux distributions (Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS, etc.) and proficiency with the command-line interface (CLI).
• Strong experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl for automation and task streamlining.
• Hands-on experience with configuration management, CI/CD tools, version control (Git), and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Understanding of networking concepts, protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP), and security measures such as firewalls (iptables).
• Exceptional ability to diagnose, debug, and resolve complex system and software issues quickly.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in industrial automation, building automation, energy management, BESS, renewables, or battery management systems, with at least 5+ years in leadership role.
• Extensive experience in software deployment, networking, cyber security, Linux, Ansible and architecture.
• Relevant industry certifications such as Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) are preferred.
• Strong people leadership and communication skills, with the ability to guide teams through complex technical decisions.
