What we are looking for:

Stem is looking for a Design Engineer to join the team in the Boulder, CO office. Under the general direction of the Design Standards and Process Manager, the Design Engineer performs a wide variety of Engineering duties. This position is responsible for providing high-quality design and CAD drafting for Stem’s products and delivering solutions to both technical and non-technical end users.

The ideal candidate will be reliable, detail oriented, enthusiastic and driven.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft and design project hardware and communication infrastructure
  • Verify that all drawings and customer documents have been properly reviewed prior to issue
  • Perform Quality Control and Quality Assurance on drawings done by other drafters in the team
  • Utilize NetSuite and other department tools to efficiently perform QA/QC checks
  • Provide technical guidance to sales team on hardware specifications and product capabilities to support customer needs
  • Take ownership of complex technical challenges with minimal supervision
  • Write customer-facing documentation for improved design documents as needed
  • Develop, improve, maintain, and document internal department processes
  • Proactively identify process improvements and automation opportunities
  • Develop SQL queries, Python scripts, and NetSuite saved searches to improve reporting, QA checks, and overall efficiency of department as needed
  • Provide training and documentation to the Sales and Production departments as required
  • Communicate with Sales, Production and Engineering team members to resolve any issues
  • Coordinate and cooperate with all departments involved to ensure the smooth flow of information for the completion of the overall project
  • Demonstrate curiosity and initiative in expanding technical knowledge
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Good electrical, civil and mechanical design fundamentals
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, serial communications and other networking concepts
  • Knowledge of industrial control panel hardware such as UPS’s, ethernet switches, firewalls, industrial computers, and IO devices
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ experience with technical drawings and CAD software required, Experience with SolidWorks Electrical preferred
  • Knowledge of SQL, Python and other coding languages is a plus, but not required
  • Strong data analytical skills
  • Good communication skills and previous experience interfacing with construction personnel
  • Knowledge of drafting standards and symbols
  • The ability to be a good listener, understand project scope and constraints, and find a complete solution
  • Excellent writing skills - most of your work will be written (email, documentation, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Windows and simple network troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to work autonomously

Work Environment:

  • Office Setting, primarily in cubicles. Required to commute to both Broomfield and Longmont offices
  • Moderate to high noise levels (i.e. business office with computers, phone, printers, moderate traffic)
  • Ability to sit or stand (standing desk provide upon request) at a computer terminal for an extended period

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate (talk/sign/type/write) and operate a computer, telephone (or alternative), keyboard (or typing device), etc.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
  • Light to moderate lifting may be required
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required

Salary Range

$70,160.00 - $105,240.00
