POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT

The Data Governance & Quality Manager is a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization's data governance program. This role serves as the organization's data governance expert and a trusted advisor to senior management. The manager will be responsible for designing the data governance roadmap, ensuring data privacy and compliance with regulations like GDPR and CCPA, and managing critical data-related projects. The role is crucial for establishing and maintaining best practices in data stewardship, quality, and management to support business goals.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner with business and technical stakeholders at senior management levels to align with organizational strategies and ensure data governance best practices and data compliance needs are prioritized and support business goals.
  • Design the Data Governance Roadmap for the organization.
  • Project manage data-related efforts, including Data Catalog retooling and Data Subject Request (DSAR) risk mitigation efforts.
  • Identify data compliance concerns and work with cross-functional privacy, infosec, technical, and business teams to ensure best practices are maintained.
  • Lead projects on governance (technical replatforming, cross-system lineage tracking, reporting metadata tagging) and data privacy (CCPA/GDPR response automation).
  • Develop and document a Data Subject Request Actioning Manual.
  • Lead cross-functional meetings with a user-centric approach on complex technical and business requirements to simplify processes.
  • Successfully own and manage the Data Subject request process to align legal, system owners, and customer care teams in a manual multi-system effort.
  • Develop and present to technical, business, and legal teams on the importance of GDPR compliance and data governance.
  • Create an organization-wide Data Stewardship Playbook.
  • Identify and train data stewards to instill best-in-class data governance practices.
  • Gather technical specifications for system connections and integrations to the data catalog.
  • Lead a metadata management project, including test case creation, QA execution, requirements gathering, and project timeline management.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Data Science, Information Systems, Business Administration) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of relevant professional experience in data governance, data quality, or related data management roles.
  • Extensive experience in data governance, data quality, and data management, with demonstrated expertise in master data management, data catalogs, data analytics, data stewardship, metadata management, data lineage, and data privacy (GDPR/CCPA).
  • Proven success in project management, including vendor management and process automation initiatives.
  • Experience mentoring and managing technical team members and contractors.
  • Experience with Robotic Process Automation (RPA) efforts.
  • Familiarity with data systems (inventory lists, source mappings, integrations) and hands-on experience with data quality analysis, cleansing, and enrichment.
  • Proficiency with relevant tools and platforms such as Power BI, Azure Purview, Azure SQL Database, MS Fabric, MDM solutions, data quality tools, and metadata management platforms.
  • Knowledge of test case creation, execution and QA processes,(SIT, UAT, PVT) and system types, including unstructured databases.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CDMP, CIPP, CISA, PMP) are a plus.
