Position Overview

At AES, we raise the quality of life around the world by transforming how data and energy work together. We are seeking a Data Center Associate Developer to assist in the development of state-of-the-art data center facilities within AES’s growing portfolio. This position is ideal for candidates passionate about infrastructure, renewable energy, and technology, looking to build a career in project development. As an Associate Developer, you will support senior team members through all phases of project development, including site identification, land acquisition, permitting, engineering coordination, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Project Development Support: Assist senior developers in managing data center development tasks from early-stage site prospecting through ready-for-construction. Help prepare project reports and updates for internal stakeholders.

Site Identification and Analysis: Support research and evaluation of potential data center locations, considering power and fiber access, environmental factors, and regulatory requirements. Collect and organize data for team review.

Land Acquisition Assistance: Assist with outreach to landowners, help coordinate negotiations, and support documentation with real estate and legal teams.

Permitting Coordination: Help prepare permitting applications, coordinate with consultants, and track submission progress with local, state, and federal authorities.

Due Diligence: Assist in organizing and reviewing environmental, geotechnical, and site studies. Summarize findings for project risk mitigation.

Engineering Coordination: Collect and track project data, help monitor design deliverables, and collaborate with engineering teams to ensure alignment with AES standards.

Interconnection and Utilities: Support preparation of interconnection applications and help track project milestones during the utility coordination process.

Stakeholder Engagement: Participate in meetings with local officials, community members, and other stakeholders to build positive project relationships.

Contract and Document Management: Maintain project records, track key documents, and support timely completion of consultant deliverables.

Team Coordination: Prepare project updates, participate in meetings, and collaborate across permitting, engineering, finance, legal, and construction functions.

Pipeline Reporting: Help maintain accurate project data and support reporting on project pipeline and status to senior leadership.

Market Research: Research emerging data center markets and assist in identifying new development opportunities.

Skills and Qualifications

2-4 years of experience in project development, data centers, renewable energy, or related infrastructure preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, business, finance, project/construction management, information technology, or other quantitative/environmental fields required.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks.

Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to represent AES externally on assigned tasks.

Proactive and analytical approach to problem-solving, with adaptability to new challenges.

Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Willingness to travel as needed (approx. 10–20%).

Passion for data center development and/or renewable energy industry.

Work Environment and Location

This position resides within AES’s project development group and collaborates with cross-functional teams across permitting, engineering, finance, legal, and construction. The role may be hybrid-based near one of AES’s office locations (Louisville, CO; Houston, TX; Salt Lake City, UT) or remote, depending on business needs.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $87,000 and $104,550/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
