Position Overview
The BESS Performance Analyst will serve as the primary Data Analyst, providing technical support to a growing Storage operating fleet by transforming equipment operational data into actionable insights & business intelligence, optimizing fleet performance, and guiding data-driven decisions. This position is located at our headquarters in Chicago, Illinois and reports to the Senior Manager, Solar & Storage Performance Analytics.
Core Responsibilities
Curate operational metrics, KPIs, and standardized reporting frameworks that transform equipment and telemetry data into actionable operational intelligence.
Clean, validate, and process raw operational data to remove outliers, errors, and inconsistencies, ensuring high data quality for downstream analytics and reporting.
Transform and structure data into scalable formats suitable for dashboards, automated reporting, and advanced analytics applications.
Design, develop, and maintain reports, dashboards, and visualizations that effectively communicate performance insights to operations, engineering, and executive stakeholders.
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations engineering, asset management, and site management teams to develop analytical tools that detect, diagnose, and resolve system underperformance.
Manage recurring performance and fleet metric reporting processes, proactively identifying trends, anomalies, and actionable improvement opportunities.
Perform ad-hoc analyses to quantify energy production and revenue impacts resulting from operational events, outages, curtailments, and dispatch deviations.
Support regulatory and compliance reporting requirements, including data preparation and submission support for NERC GADS.
Utilize AVEVA PI System tools—including Asset Framework, Analyses, and Event Frames—to create real-time monitoring, calculations, and performance tracking solutions.
Required Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
Minimum 2+ years of experience working with operational, industrial, or energy asset data in an analytics, engineering, or performance monitoring capacity.
Proficiency in Python for data analysis, automation, and performance modeling of operational datasets.
Experience designing and maintaining dashboards and reports in Microsoft Power BI or similar visualization platforms.
Ability to clean, validate, and transform raw telemetry and SCADA data into structured formats suitable for analytics and reporting.
Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to partner cross-functionally with operations, engineering, asset management, and site teams to deliver actionable insights.
Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of SQL for querying, transforming, and managing large-scale time-series and relational data sources.
Working knowledge of battery energy storage system operations and performance metrics such as availability, round-trip efficiency, and capacity utilization.
Hands-on experience with the AVEVA PI System, including development and maintenance of Asset Framework (AF) hierarchies, templates, attributes, and analyses.
Base Pay
The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
