Job Description

X-Energy is seeking a strategic, hands-on financial modeler to join our Project Finance & Corporate Development team. As an Associate, you will lead the development of complex cost models for cutting-edge nuclear projects. This role plays a critical part in shaping the economic foundation of capital projects, supporting billion-dollar investment decisions, and ensuring that the Xe-100 remains at the forefront of energy transition efforts. The position manages the end-to-end process of financial modeling, from structure and assumptions to outputs and strategy, collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure accuracy and alignment across the organization.

This is a critical role on a high visibility team. You’ll collaborate with engineering, commercial, and executive leadership to challenge assumptions, drive financial clarity, and guide execution decisions across capital-intensive projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and evolution of capital project models across a portfolio of infrastructure and energy investments, ensuring that they are reliable, accurate, and support long-term decision-making.
  • Build comprehensive financial models that integrate cost estimates, schedules, phasing, escalation, financing, risk assessments, and returns from early feasibility through to execution.
  • Drive alignment and clarity across clients, executives, engineers, and commercial teams by presenting, defending, and explaining models.
  • Translate model outputs into actionable insights, helping build executive-level dashboards and reports.
  • Evaluate variances between actuals vs. pro forma and recommend strategic adjustments to cost and phasing.
  • Contribute to the development of business cases, respond to RFIs, and help structure deals, including financing and off-take components.
  • Continuously improve tools, templates, and processes to increase modeling quality and efficiency.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, or related field.
  • 4–10 years of experience in project finance, infrastructure private equity, investment banking, strategic finance, or capital-intensive operations.
  • Strong experience building and owning end-to-end financial models for major infrastructure, energy, or industrial projects.
  • Comfort navigating both the technical and commercial sides of a project — you're as fluent with engineers as you are with investors.
  • Strong Excel modeling skills, with the ability to build from scratch, create sensitivity cases, and set up models thoughtfully (what should go on a drivers tab, how to set up tabs that link together cleanly, etc).
  • A knack for simplifying complexity — you can communicate financial insights clearly to any audience.
  • Proactive, collaborative mindset. You don’t wait for answers; you go find them.

Why Join Us?

At X-Energy, you won’t just model capital projects — you’ll help define the future of clean energy. We operate at the intersection of climate impact, energy infrastructure, and deep technology, and your work will help shape how and where next-generation nuclear power gets built.
