Agriculture

At Aigen, our mission is to accelerate the transition to regenerative agriculture—with a pesticide-free, solar powered robotics platform.

52% of agricultural land is degraded by current management practices, and 60-75% of original soil carbon has been lost in lands used for agriculture (according to the IPCC). Join us to make a real world impact at the confluence of cutting edge robotic technology, agriculture, AI, and climate! With $26M raised to date, we are backed by investors including NEA, GFC, AgFunder, Onto, and Bessemer Ventures.

Aigen celebrates diversity in all its forms and is an equal opportunity employer. We consider every applicant without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, disability or any other characteristic protected by law.

The Role:

In this role as the Assembly and Test Technician you will be hands on in all aspects of this work. Half of the role is planning and executing production while the other half is running tests both in the lab and in the field. The secret third half of the role is helping the whole Aigen team support customers to be successful in their operation of Element robot fleets.

On the manufacturing side, you will assist in everything from helping engineers build prototypes, planning production layout, and actually assembling our 2027 fleet of robots. As a solar powered autonomous robot, there are many electro-mechanical components, PCBs, and sensors that require careful attention to detail.

On the testing side, you will help prove that the robot really works. Testing a robot that needs to survive many years on a farm and successfully kill weeds covers a lot of ground including: thermal, vibration, endurance, ingress protection, system operation, and weeding efficacy. Testing will start in the lab, but will include field tests on real farms local and out of state. What you help discover through testing feeds directly into the next design update and production run. Full-time, on-site in Redmond, WA. Monday through Friday, roughly 9 am to 5 pm, with occasional travel (10%) to field sites.

Responsibilities
  • Build wire harnesses and handle electrical integration: crimping, connector assembly, cable routing and labeling, continuity and insulation checks

  • Assemble mechanical subassemblies and complete robots to drawings and work instructions, using hand, torque and automated tools

  • Build prototype robots, then carry what you learn into the production builds

  • Help write the production plan: build sequence, work instructions, fixtures and tooling, station layout and throughput estimates

  • Set up the production line and build subassemblies to plan; flag problems in drawings, BOMs and process before they reach the floor

  • Run kitting and inventory: receive and count parts, kit for builds, keep stock levels and locations current

  • Run hardware tests with our reliability engineer: thermal, vibration, endurance and ingress protection (IP), plus system and software tests on complete robots. Set up test fixtures and instrumentation, log data, review results for anomalies and summarize what you find for the engineers

  • Support field operations: deploy, service and troubleshoot robots at grower sites, and help prototype next gen updates

  • Keep build and test records current with data entry in our inventory, build and test tracking tools

What we're looking for:
  • Hands-on experience with electrical integration, wire harnessing and mechanical assembly (3+ years, or equivalent technical training)

  • Production assembly experience: you build to drawings and work instructions, and you can tell a good plan from a bad one and say so

  • Experience running tests and collecting data, with comfort around basic instrumentation (multimeters, thermocouples, data loggers)

  • Comfortable with spreadsheets and basic data evaluation: plotting, spotting outliers, summarizing results

  • Proficient with torque tools, nut runners, crimpers and standard hand and power tools

  • Able to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and harness drawings

  • Basic PC skills including data entry

  • Not afraid to play in the dirt: willing to work outdoors in field conditions and travel to field sites

  • Able to work on your feet for up to 4 hours at a time and lift 50 lbs

  • Valid driver's license, for testing and field travel

Bonus Points:
  • A background in scientific or engineering data evaluation: lab or test technician work, QA, or coursework in physics, engineering or a related field

  • Experience with environmental test equipment: thermal chambers, vibration tables, IP ingress rigs

  • Experience planning production, writing work instructions, or working in an MRP or inventory system

  • Experience with robotics, electric vehicles, battery systems, solar or off-highway equipment

  • Python or similar scripting for test automation or data analysis

  • Farm or field equipment experience

Benefits:
  • Stock options

  • Unlimited paid time off (15 days minimum)

  • Healthcare - 100% coverage for employee

  • Vision

  • Dental

  • 401(k)

  • Work on a team in which the qualities that diverse team members bring to the table are appreciated
