Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.
The Validation team at Base is responsible for ensuring our power systems, inverters, and batteries perform reliably in the real world. As a Validation Engineer, you will establish and lead the validation function, building the tools, processes, and team that allow Base to deliver trusted, high-quality products at scale. You will work closely with R&D, Supply Chain, and Quality Engineering to define what “reliable” means for our systems, and then prove it through rigorous testing.
This is an opportunity to shape how validation is done at Base, from first principles to implementation.
What You'll Do:
Define and own Base’s validation strategy, building a robust framework that scales with product complexity and fleet growth.
Lead the development of validation protocols for inverters, batteries, and power systems using thermal chambers, high-power supplies, and advanced test equipment.
Architect and oversee the development of validation automation software and infrastructure.
Ensure requirements and test management systems are versioned, consistent, and reliable across teams.
Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve validation findings, influence design decisions, and improve product reliability.
Generate and communicate detailed validation reports to support compliance, certification, and executive decision-making.
Required Skills / Qualifications:
A systems-level mindset and passion for building reliable, resilient products.
5+ years of experience in software or electromechanical validation, with significant time spent on power systems, hardware, or embedded products.
Expertise with validation equipment (thermal chambers, high-power supplies, DAQ systems) and test automation frameworks.
Experience leading validation programs from concept through production release.
Strong background in requirements and test management systems, version control, and process discipline.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence technical decisions across disciplines.
Proven ability to build, lead, and mentor high-performing engineering teams.
First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.
Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.
Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.
Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.
Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.
Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.
Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.
