Job Description
We are seeking motivated and energetic individuals to join as Senior NERC Associate to support NERC and regional Balancing Authority compliance for utility-scale battery energy storage assets, from late-stage development through operations. The role will report to the company’s Senior Manager of Regulatory Compliance and will work closely with EPC, Legal, and AM team members to ensure the organization has appropriate procedures and is applying industry best practices surrounding compliance with NERC, FERC, and related regional entities. The Senior NERC Associate will work to develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive compliance program. This will involve conducting regular risk assessments, identifying potential compliance gaps, and implementing corrective actions as needed. The Associate will also be responsible for staying current on all NERC standards and regulatory requirements, ensuring that our organization is proactively addressing any changes or updates. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in NERC compliance or a related field, with a deep understanding of NERC standards and regulatory requirements. They will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization.


Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a corporate-wide compliance program for generation assets, ensuring adherence to NERC, ISO/RTO, and FERC regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all periodic reporting requirements and oversee regulatory compliance documentation updates, evidence package development, and departmental reviews.
  • Support, guide, and oversee internal and external compliance monitoring activities such as audits, spot checks, self-certifications, and gap assessments.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including NERC regional compliance enforcement authorities, ISO/RTO organizations, compliance vendors, O&M staff, and industry peers.
  • Work closely with IT/OT vendors and EMS departments to ensure Cyber & CIP compliance.
  • Analyze contract terms and pricing for systemic risks and work with Procurement and Asset Management to ensure appropriate actions and mitigations are in place.
  • Maintain evidence repository and records related to compliance activities.
  • Manage and support all relevant registration activities related to NERC, ISO, and Balancing Authorities in required markets.
  • Serve as point of contact for all regulatory audits and inquiries.
  • Stay up to date on regulatory standards and requirements, and ensure procedures are updated and distributed to appropriate support functions accordingly.
  • Provide training and raise awareness among employees about NERC standards and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies as required.
  • Develop, implement and maintain NERC Compliance program dashboards, metrics and KPIs.
  • Manage and control compliance-related documents, including policies, procedures, reports, spreadsheets, and work logs.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Business, Law, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing teams in industrial or energy storage facilities.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, Teams, and Smartsheet.
  • Familiarity with battery storage systems, high voltage electrical systems, and facility operations.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience presenting to executive stakeholders.
  • Advanced problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking skills.
  • Familiarity with electric power industry data and reporting requirements (NERC, ISO/RTO, etc.).

Compensation & Benefits
The actual salary and bonus offered will depend on the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.

Salary: $125,000Bonus: 20%

Location
This position is classified as remote; however, periodic travel to company offices, project sites or other meeting locations may be required on an as-needed basis.
