Scout Clean Energy. is seeking an experienced renewable energy Resource Assessment Senior Associate to join a growing Resource Assessment team.  The role will be responsible for conducting preliminary resource assessments on early to mid-stage wind and solar development projects, assisting in greenfield prospecting efforts, creating preliminary wind and solar layouts, and supporting development project met campaign designs and data management.  The Resource Assessment Senior Associate will interface with project developers, operational and asset management teams, engineering and construction managers and other professionals to support the company’s rapidly growing business.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct preliminary and initial resource assessments on early-stage prospective wind and solar assets.  Utilize resource assessment modeling software, including running and improving existing scripts used to prepare project energy yield reports and other products, yielding Exceedance Production, 8760s and 12 x 24s used by Financial and Commercial teams.
  • Review internal resource assessments reports and deliverables related to wind and solar assets in development. 
  • Collaborate and support the Met Systems team responsible for collecting, organizing, and quality controlling meteorological data and service documentation from a fleet of wind and solar development met towers, remote sensors (Sodar/Lidar) and operational permanent met stations.
  • Support 3rd party independent engineers (IEs) with information needed for production of bankable Energy Yield Assessments (EYA).
  • Create initial wind and solar farm designs.  Work with Development team and project managers in evaluating wind/solar technology, wind/solar resource data, and balance of plant (BOP) sensitivities in order to create the most efficient and optimized design to maximize asset internal rate of return.
  • Support M&A due diligence efforts from a Resource Assessment perspective.
  • Support and/or perform studies yielding acoustic, shadow flicker, and avian/bat information, in support of wind and solar energy facilities under development. This includes managing third-party consultants when required by regulatory agencies.
  • Design and manage consultants engaged in power curve and acoustic testing, including all related activities associated with instrumentation of turbines and interfacing with turbine suppliers.
  • Maintain and improve internal websites
  • Facilitate prospecting efforts for projects identified by Scouts New Projects Team. This includes simple screening, analysis of on-site data, and analysis of numerical/reanalysis data.
  • Develop software tools used by analysts in a collaborative revision-controlled environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering or related technical discipline and two years of experience in running wind/solar resource assessments, layout designs and experience using standard industry software packages, including software development in support of resource assessment (or)
  • Masters degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering or related technical discipline and experience from a resource assessments internship or academic project including using standard industry software packages or software development in support of resource assessment (or)
  • Equivalent formal technical training and experience
  • Demonstrated experience performing data analysis on wind and solar meteorological observations from met sensors, ground based remote sensors (LIDARs and SODARs), solar PV sensors and other
  • Willingness to travel to conferences, in support of prospecting wind and solar assets, and in support of micro-siting
  • Ability to read & comprehend standards, specifications, construction drawings, electrical wiring diagrams and other academic material required for success
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills.

Additional Desired Skills:

  • Experience running scripts and debug software.
    • Python3 is dominate at Scout but other programming languages or the demonstrated ability to learn new languages is sufficient.
  • Experience digging into and understand complicated analysis and explaining findings to stakeholders
  • Experience leveraging reanalysis data and/or forecasting models in custom deliverables (generated by NCEP or other government organizations)
  • Experience with wind and solar data analysis including writing software in support of data analysis and leveraging IDEs such as; VS code, R-studio, Eclipse, Spyder or other.
  • Experience with wind and solar resource assessment modeling software such as; Windographer, OpenWind, WindPro, PVSyst, PlantPredict, RatedPower, WindPro, OpenFOAM, NULA-wind, WRF or other.
  • Ability to concisely frame issues by providing context, analysis, recommendations and risk/benefit tradeoffs
  • Ability to prepare / deliver written reports and presentation of analysis to project teams and senior management.
  • Ability to manage 3rd party IEs and other contractors performing analysis on Scouts behalf

Target base salary: $75,000 – $90,000 (Negotiable for the right candidate.)
