Location: National Traveling position - Living in MN, IL, or near a major airport

Salary Range: $47.50 to $52.75 hourly DOE

The Major Component Wind Turbine Repair Specialist conducts inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on wind turbine components across Avangrid’s onshore fleet. As part of the O&M Engineering team, the role works closely with Field Operations to identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Perform inspections, repairs, and corrective maintenance across all wind turbine generator (WTG) platforms, with a focus on structural components and major systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to site technicians on maintenance, operation, and repair activities.
  • Conduct End-of-Warranty/Contract inspections, analyze findings, and deliver clear summary reports to stakeholders.
  • Develop, implement, and support technical documentation, including service bulletins and work instructions.
  • Own the review, approval, and publication of procedures and reference materials for field maintenance and inspections.
  • Investigate component failures and anomalies through field diagnostics, including disassembly, inspection, and root cause analysis.
  • Analyze failure trends and prepare reports to support reliability improvements across the fleet.
  • Review and assess supplier root cause analyses and corrective action plans.
  • Support internal testing, measurement, and evaluation of potential corrective solutions.
  • Collaborate with Commercial teams to develop and qualify alternative supplier repair solutions.
  • Evaluate tools, equipment, and emerging technologies to enhance field capabilities.
  • Support operational Stop/Run decisions for wind turbines based on technical assessments.
  • Assist in training field technicians on maintenance best practices and procedures. Support formal training of Technicians on maintenance best practices.
  • Technical background with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the wind energy industry.
  • Degree in engineering, math, physics, or other technical discipline or equivalent experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven organizational and planning abilities, with the capacity to apply these skills to sound technical judgment and decision-making.
  • Ability to climb wind turbine towers up to 120 meters and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel within the United States, with approximately 70% travel required.
  • Proven experience performing inspections and repairs on wind turbine drivetrains, blades, gear boxes, generators, etc., including hands-on knowledge of Gamesa, GE, and Suzlon platforms.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the safe and effective use of electrical and mechanical tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of standard office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and email applications.
