Position Summary

The Inventory Planning Manager is responsible for leading inventory management alignment within warehouse operation processes and inventory materials planning while developing and implementing standardized inventory management programs and processes across multiple facilities. This role focuses on creating scalable inventory procedures, control standards, and planning best practices that can be consistently deployed across the organization’s fleet for availability support of the operational sites.

This leadership role combines hands-on inventory supervision with strategic process development and continuous improvement initiatives, with responsibility for managing warehouse personnel, ensuring inventory accuracy, supporting operational readiness, and driving consistency in planning execution, reporting, safety, and material management practices across all locations. The Inventory Planning Manager develops and standardizes inventory operating procedures (SOPs), management protocols, cycle count programs, receiving and shipping processes, and warehouse performance metrics to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and operational reliability across the enterprise. Additionally, the role partners closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams to align inventory planning processes with business objectives while maintaining compliance with company policies, safety standards, and inventory control requirements, requiring the ability to balance strategic program development with day-to-day operational leadership and employee supervision.

Main Responsibilities

Warehouse Operations Leadership

  • Manage day-to-day warehouse and inventory operations across assigned facilities to support operational goals and business needs

  • Supervise warehouse personnel including scheduling, training, performance management, coaching, and employee development

  • Lead hiring, onboarding, and development of warehouse team members and supervisors

  • Maintain a safe, productive, and accountable warehouse environment focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement

  • Conduct warehouse audits, safety observations, and operational reviews to ensure compliance with company standards and procedures

  • Ensure safe operation and maintenance of warehouse equipment, forklifts, and material handling assets

Warehouse Program & Process Development

  • Develop and implement standardized warehouse management programs, procedures, and operating models that can be deployed consistently across multiple facilities

  • Establish enterprise-wide warehouse standards for receiving, inventory control, material storage, shipping, cycle counting, labeling, and material handling practices

  • Create scalable warehouse processes designed to improve operational consistency, inventory accuracy, efficiency, and reporting capabilities across the fleet

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on warehouse optimization, workflow efficiency, space utilization, and inventory management performance

  • Ability to develop Inventory Planning KPIs, scorecards, and operational metrics to monitor performance of materials and warehouse functionality to drive accountability across locations

  • Partner with cross-functional business units to identify operational gaps and implement standardized solutions

Operation Planning

  • Lead warehouse capacity planning initiatives to ensure adequate staffing, storage utilization, and material availability to support operational demands and future business growth

  • Develop short-term and long-term inventory planning strategies aligned with operational forecasts, maintenance schedules, outage planning, and organizational objectives

  • Partner with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to forecast material requirements, critical spare parts demand, and replenishment timelines across all operational facilities

  • Establish standardized inventory planning processes for replenishment, min/max levels, safety stock management, and demand forecasting to improve inventory optimization and reduce stockout risk

  • Analyze inventory trends, usage patterns, and operational data to identify opportunities for inventory reduction, improved material availability, and warehouse efficiency improvements

  • Coordinate planning efforts for major projects, outages, expansions, and emergency operational activities to ensure timely material availability and operational readiness

  • Develop and maintain planning metrics including inventory turns, fill rates, service levels, forecast accuracy, and inventory performance indicators

  • Support annual budgeting and capital planning activities related to warehouse operations, inventory investment, storage infrastructure, and material handling equipment

  • Drive cross-functional planning alignment between warehouse operations, engineering, maintenance, and field operations teams to support enterprise-wide operational consistency and reliability

Inventory Management & Materials Control

  • Oversee inventory management activities including receiving, stocking, cycle counting, replenishment, and inventory accuracy initiatives

  • Review inventory usage trends, reorder points, and stocking strategies to optimize inventory levels and reduce excess inventory

  • Implement inventory control procedures and audit practices to ensure data integrity within ERP/WMS system

  • Coordinate material transfers and inventory sharing across facilities to support operational reliability and minimize downtime risk

  • Ensure proper warehousing and organization of equipment, parts, tools, and operational materials

Compliance & Operational Support

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA requirements, inventory control standards, and audit requirements

  • Maintain accurate warehouse documentation, inventory records, and operational reporting

  • Support operational projects, outage activities, and emergency response efforts as needed

  • Cross functionally support operating site budgets and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and cost savings

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal business partners, suppliers, and operational leadership teams

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred

  • In addition to a bachelor’s degree, five (5) years or more of experience in inventory planning management, warehousing or supply chain roles including one (1) year or more of direct reports

Desired Qualifications

  • Seven (7) years or more of experience inventory planning management, warehousing or supply chain roles

  • Experience developing and implementing standardized inventory planning and/or warehouse management programs supporting operational processes across multiple sites or facilities

  • Proven experience supervising teams and managing day-to-day inventory planning within operations

  • Experience with inventory control systems, ERP platforms, or warehouse management systems (WMS)

  • Strong understanding of warehouse operations, inventory optimization, and materials management best practices

  • Experience leading multi-site warehouse standardization or process improvement initiatives

  • Proven leadership, organizational, and project management skills

  • Strong analytical and reporting capabilities with experience developing inventory planning KPIs and performance metric

  • Experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, energy, utility, or field service operations preferred

  • Forklift certification or experience managing material handling equipment programs preferred

Working Conditions

  • Office and warehouse environment with travel between operational facilities as needed

  • Exposure to industrial warehouse conditions including varying temperatures, noise, and material handling equipment

  • Ability to work in physically active environments including standing, walking, lifting, and operating warehouse equipment as needed

  • Availability to support emergency operational needs or critical business activities outside normal business hours when required
